Rhymefest makes runoff for 20th Ward Alderman

Last night was one of the more intriguing nights in politics here in Chicago as the Daley era is officially coming to a close with the election of former Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel as the city's new mayor. Also up for election were the city's alderman positions, which we all know Grammy-award winning artist Rhymefest was in the running for. The results are in and the 20th Ward Alderman is... still to be determined.
Grammy-award winning rapper Che "Rhymefest" Smith has made it into a runoff race for a Chicago City Council seat. With all precincts reporting, the rapper had 20 percent of the vote, trailing incumbent Alderman Willie Cochran, who had 46 percent. Since no candidate got more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two advance to the runoff.

So, there you have it. Cochran vs. Smith for all the marbles. With only two candidates to vote for, perhaps that will be enough for 'Fest to gain the necessary support and overtake the incumbent Cochran? Whatever the final result, a congrats is certainly in order for Rhymefest for making it this far, as he has done a lot of good for the community both locally in Chicago and for the hip hop community as well. Stay tuned for the final results and get out and vote for the runoff if you can!
