Last summer, I was first introduced to Childish Gambino, the rap pseudonym of Community actor Donald Glover, as the free album Culdesac raised my eyebrows, leading me to see that 'Troy' does in fact possess some solid rap skills. Today: eyebrows raised again at the new music video for "Freaks & Geeks", which has currently vaulted Childish Gambino to a worldwide trending topic at posting time. And for good reason. Glover displays some witty wordplay and a fast, intense flow that ignites an infectious energy on the track. That energy is further illustrated in the one-take, one-camera video directed by Dan Eckman which shows Glover performing the hell out of the song as the camera inches closer from beginning to end. A simple, yet creative visual for a song that is an ear-catcher from the first bar onward. The song may be a tad raunchy at times for my usual taste, but I overall rock with the raps at hand. As a bonus, you can download the track above as well as the Adele remix he mentioned he killed in "Freaks & Geeks" (whoops! He references "Do Ya Like" from Culdesac), which I agree; Glover shows he's no joke on that one as well. Glover is about to embark on a nationwide tour starting in March and his new EP will be available March 8th. For more info, hit iamdonald.com. Be sure to check it all out, as I proceed to catch up on last night's Community.
But before I do that just yet, the new music videos below feature Consequence, the Chuck Inglish-produced "Light One Up" by Chip Tha Ripper, Phil Ade, and Tony Yayo & Lil' B. Lots of new visuals to peep, plus a trio of bonus links below. Enjoy!
