G.o.D. Jewels delivers the must-have mixtape, Greatness Opens Doors, proudly presented by GWHH! The Chicago emcee shows a lot of versatility in style and message from top to bottom, kicking off the mixtape with a trio of bangers: "Open The Door", the previously-featured "All Things 'Go", and "Old Folks". The latter is instantly one of the catchier tracks of the tape that channels a familiar whistle and conveys his clever and engaging perspective of growin' up in the city. Moving forward, G.o.D. Jewels provides some commentary on not being co-signed by blogs or artists (I think that's gonna change now) and really contrasts well with female singer J. Nicole on "The Cusp" and later on the mixtape's concluding track "Close The Door". Perhaps the project's most powerful record is partly inspired by comedian Paul Mooney and tackles the controversial subject of race. In fact, the title is "R.A.C.E. (Respect All Colors & Ethnicities) and G.o.D. Jewels spits some furious, thought-provoking lyrics about the continued belittlement he feels African-Americans have to deal with... and that's just for starters. Overall, the project comes complete with a couple more features from The Boy Illinois and Tommy Mitchell, a variety of topics with thoughtful and intelligent messages, a soulful Chicago sound, and G.o.D. Jewels' distinct pronunciation and flows that further define him as an artist. Open your doors to this one and download above!
Also gotta give props to the art work by Fernando Peniche & DUBble; that's some amazing work that illustrates G.o.D. Jewels rockin' the Jordan VIII, a bear and a bull for Chicago's sports teams, guardian angels, and of course the Sears Willis Tower in the background. Info on how to connect with the artists as well as the artist G.o.D. Jewels are after the jump along with the back cover/tracklist and look once again at the "All Things 'Go" video (if you want a lil' preview). Enjoy!
