Leading this new music update is an interesting and positive look for Chicago's own: SoulStice. His track "The Melody", originally recorded in 2003, was picked up for the movie 'The Preacher's Kid' starring LeToya Luckett. Above is the trailer, where the song can briefly be heard around the one minute mark. If you're like me, you'll prolly have to watch it twice since LeToya is quite the distraction the first time around, haha. But back to the music, "The Melody" can also be downloaded above and it definitely showcases some slick rhymes from SoulStice. The production is unique and melodic as you can imagine; the only thing that holds me back is that the chorus is missing that extra something. Nevertheless, it's a solid track to grab above and congrats to SoulStice on the major placement as The Preacher's Kid is in theatres nationwide now.
Down below, some more new tracks from the up and comers continue with Chicago R&B/Soul singer J. Hollins links up with legendary battle emcee Juice for a unique collabo. Juice over a slowed down tempo is not really what I initially envision but I think it works. Jordan Looney, outta Evanston via St. Paul, leaks the first track off his upcoming mixtape as it samples the iconic production from Ocean's Twelve (or Thirteen? I get them confused but that whole trilogy is awesome). I wish it was longer and without the obnoxious beginning but it still shows some of J-Loonz' skills. More audio comes courtesy of QuESt, Bun B & Drake in snippet form, Lloyd's addition to "Bedrock", a new DJ Kay Slay helmed collabo (shouts 2 DDot), and another Victory leak (shouts 2 NR) The videos include the first part of the GO! Experiment (Drew with the project's details), a fun video premiere from Mic Terror, and more featuring the likes of Drake and Trey Songz. Enjoy!
