File this update in quantity over quality as out of the nearly 20 tracks available for download, only a few really hit the right chord for me, starting with Chicago MC Lottery's new single "New Best Friend". There's a slowed down sound that's predominant on this one, in part due to Ill Legit's chill production. He's also featured on the track that focuses on the pursuit of that new best friend. However, the track begins to explore beyond 'the chase' with a hook that, while not particularly catchy, adds an authentic sense lyrically to the song. The hook easily works and ties things together quite nicely. "New Best Friend" is definitely somethin' to vibe with, while not typically a track that would earn multiple repeats from me. Check out Lottery in Chicago's RedEye tomorrow after winning Kyra Kyles' latest track-off and vote for "New Best Friend" after you hear it on GO ILL radio this weekend.
The other notable tracks comes from an unexpected R&B/hip hop collabo from K'Jon and Obie Trice. The "On The Ocean RMX" has a solemn, reflective mood to it that I not only appreciate but can also feel within. And another record to definitely check out comes from the Bones (shouts 2 YK2) as "Let It Go" is propelled from a very strong chorus. As for the rest of the tracks, there were a lot of misses - perhaps the biggest coming from T-Pain trying to comeback to mainstream prominence with a single called "Reverse Cowgirl". I predict flop but stranger things have happened. Don't get caught up in the downloading hoopla as Mikkey Halsted hits up Toca Tuesdays with a freestyle (that really picks up 30 seconds in) and Pill and Freddie Gibbs talk with Dee Vazquez in a new video interview. Enjoy!
