Chicago artist Chris Mathien just came through with a flat out awesome record entitled "The Definition". Rewinding a step, we were all first exposed to the interesting sounds of singer/producer Chris Mathien with the dope 1st single from R.O.E., which you can grab above as well. Mathien does the solo deal with "The Definition", successfully summarizing the feeling he gets when people ask him what genre he performs in. As you can hear, Mathien can't be classified in one lane, which of course makes the record register more powerfully. I especially like the effortless flow and how the lyrics just roll of his tongue at the :49 second mark. The piano-dominant production actually reminds me of the Fort Minor/John Legend 2005 collabo "High Road". Mathien's catchiness is dispersed throughout his delivery on the entire song, not just the hook, but the latter is actually the song's greatest trait because of how the words can be directly applied to many of us.
