When I first moved to Chicago, I found that the best way to get to know my neighborhood and all that it had to offer was to walk around and explore the grounds. It was a good way to get to know the hot spots and important places (i.e. BYOB sushi, ice cream joints and places to get band-aids).
So, armed with a rough draft of a walking tour of the Gold Coast, I hit the streets to find the hidden gems, adding a few of my own as I roamed. In the end, I realized that not only does the neighborhood offer some history (the Archbishop's quarters is right down the street from the original Playboy mansion), but it is also a great scenic running route for those dedicated to outdoor activities.
Check out my route on the map below and the photo gallery of some notable historic buildings in the neighborhood.
