The famous Pump Room located inside the Ambassador East Hotel in Gold Coast, Chicago will cease to exist. The legendary restaurant has a pending sale that is more than final with Ian Schrager Co. which is based in New York.
The Pump Room for those of you who may not know was the place to be in the late 1930s many movie stars and celebrities such as Hugh Hefner and the Rat Pack were regulars at the famous Pump Room. Alderman Vi Daley, alderman to a section of the Gold Coast will be meeting with the company late this month to discuss the changes the company has planned for the infamous Pump Room.
It is really sad to see a Chicago land mark go; just as sad as when Marshall Field's was changed to Macy's. Why is everything going to New York?
Not much has been said about the upcoming changes to the Pump Room by the new owners. I'll keep you guys posted on the "new concept". I just hope that the renovation won't take away the prestige that the Pump Room was known for.
As for me I am left with never having entered the Pump Room, I wish I would have heard of its closing sooner so that I might have been able to pay a visit to such a cool place.

Hey, Claudia! Good work! How'd you hear of the closure! I just wanted to throw out some applause: this post showed up in our Google Alerts today because you mentioned Vi Daley :-)

Thank You!
Actually Alderman Vi Daley told me herself about the closing when I met with her.
