Gold Coast Links...

I am a DePaul senior Political Science major and Journalism minor.

The Gold Coast neighborhood has been widely talked about on the web these past few days as was the case while I tried to look for where in the web was the Gold Coast being talked about.

I was able to find a page that was similar to ours called Chitown Daily News that attempted at being hiperlocal it had a section for neighborhood news, businesses, and a neighborhood forum to which no one had posted anything to.

But when it came to the Gold Coast neighborhood being in the news topix.com had an article linking Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor Scott Cohen to the Gold Coast. Apparently he had been living with his 29 yr. old girlfriend in their Gold Coast home, days before she pleaded guilty to charges on prostitution at a Glenview massage parlor where she had worked.

Another spark of controversy hitting the Gold Coast was the issue of a couple scamming a group of nuns from Wisconsin also reported on topix.com. The Carmelite nuns in Pewaukee, Wisconsin donated $815,000 to a couple they thought to be in need of their help. Yet, it turned out the couple was living it up with the nuns money in an apartment in the Gold Coast. The couple not only scammed the group of nuns but other religious groups as well. It is reported that the woman is now sentenced to time in prison for the scam.

However, the bad controversies involving the Gold Coast continue. Former Alderman Edward Vrdolyak (71 yrs. old) is being sentensed to prison for his role in a rigged Gold Coast real estate deal. Vrdolyak pleaded guilty to being part in splitting a $1.5 million finders fee.

Lets see if the controversies continue or maybe we'll find better news throughout the week.
