Not one of us: South Carolina Governor Sanford

Sanford.jpg

We, in the atheist community, have a saying:  "Thank God, he's not one of us!"

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford was quoted, yesterday, in the CNN story S. C. Attorney General to review Sanford's travel records as saying, regarding his decision to not resign, "I would ultimately be a better person and of more service in whatever doors God opened next in life if I stuck around to learn lessons rather than running and hiding down at the farm."

This story reminds me of a state/church separation controversy from just a few years back, in which questions were raised about the establishment of a "Christians only" wing at a Texas prison.  I responded, at the time, that it's not a problem -- no problem at all.  They could have the whole place if they'd like.

You never hear stories about an atheist wing at a prison.  There'd be nobody to put in there.

Similarly, you never hear any stories about atheist politicians cheating on their spouses.  We don't do that sort of thing.  We just quietly go about our ethical lives, while Christians like Governor Sanford wave around their bibles, talking about how moral they are and how we atheists supposedly can't possibly be as moral as good Christians like Governor Sanford because we don't believe that there is a god floating around in the sky.

The reality is that atheists are America's model citizens.  Too bad that more Americans aren't like us.

Wait!  Recent polls have shown exactly that, that every day, more and more Americans are realizing that God is make-believe.  In fact, atheism is the fastest growing theological perspective in America.  Thank God!

Rob, I couldn't agree with you more. Reading this post made me think of the story of Jeremy Hall who sued the Army given his right to be free from state endorsement of religion had been violated.

I lived in New York City for 15 years. I became cynical, which is the religion of East Coast know-it-alls. Then I moved back to Chicago to open Joey's Brickhouse. Thank God. Now I'm a non-practicing optimist. The Midwest saved me from the depths of know-it-all-ness. Mark Sanford, Elliot Spitzer, Larry Craig, Newt Gingrich and Jeffrey Dahmer are scumbags. At least Jeffrey Dahmer admits to eating boys. Listen here, there is no God. If there was he'd say this, "Stop electing these idiots. Oh, and read everything written by Kurt Vonnegut. He's up here in heaven right now, cracking me up." Amen!

Albert Einstein said he was not an atheist because it required defending a position. I say there is a God BUT until you understand Einstein's Therory of Relativity do not try to understand God. Folks that profess to have an understanding of God have a tendecy to simplify most other complicated issues and are by definition simple folks. To be brutal, to be Frank, Educated folks that are God folks are liars, plain and simple. So, these lying and Cheating intellects eventually show their real colors. To be brutal, to be Frank Mark Sanford is nothing but a lying and cheating scumbag leaning on the forgiveness of a God he does not really believe exists.
