Halloween + Burlesque = "Vaudezilla"

user-pic
As the RedEye's resident geek, I'm not all that accustomed to having attractive women writing me.  So imagine my surprise when I got an e-mail from Chicago-based burlesque performer Red Hot Annie- who pretty much lives up to her name - wanting to let Geek To Me readers know about a special show she and her fellow performers will be putting on this coming Halloween. And since gorgeous redheads can get me to do just about anything, I was happy to oblige and pass the word along:

Vaudezilla's "Monster Burlesque Academy"

October 31, 2009 - 10:00 pm
Portage Theatre
4050 N Milwaukee Av, Chicago IL 60641

President Red Hot Annie and Vice President Dick Dijon cordially invite you to the inaugural graduation ceremony for Vaudezilla's Monster Burlesque Academy!

The Monster Burlesque Academy prides itself on a devilish dedication to the joint disciplines of sexy and scary.  The Class of 2009 has made us proud, and we feel they will offer a shriek-inducing legacy for many years to come.  To commemorate this auspicious occasion, the MBA has chosen the majestic Portage Theatre to host the frighteningly fabulous festivities.

Prior to the show, take a stroll around the grand lobby of Portage Theater to peruse costumes, adult goodies, and more from our sponsors.

The ceremony begins promptly at 10pm, and your admission fee is $15 in advance, or $20 at the door.  Each ticket enters you into a free raffle to win prizes, including:

$100 gift bag from Early 2 Bed

$140 in handbags from Cahoots Handbags

We hope you will join us as we matriculate these ghoulishly gorgeous ladies: Red Hot Annie, Donna Touch, Maria May I, Barrett All, Paris Green, Chasity Chaos, Oosha Boom, Kitty Victorian, Carnal Calamity, Viva La Muerte, The Revelettes, Coo d'Twat, and introducing our exchange student from Pittsburgh: Lady Lillith, as well as many more!

Halloween is for Geeks!

There once was a time when Christmas was my favorite holiday of the year, but as I got older, and the number of presents under the tree with my name on them began to shrink, it was replaced by the one day in the year when adults and kids still had equal footing in the fun department: Halloween.

Think about it, outside of a comic-convention or Dragon-Con, All Hallow's Eve is the only time of the year where 'grown-ups' get to dress up in kids costumes, go out in public and not have anyone look at you sideways.  So, IMO, Halloween is for Geeks, Nerds and cosplayers of all ages!

Which brings me to the subject of costumes and this cool new outfit that found...

I've finally gotten to the last of the G2Mtv segments from San Diego and this one is a fun one!  I met 'The Fro' as he wandered the halls of the SDCC, an interesting dude to say the least:

'Our Chicago screening is on!  It's going to be at Reggie's Music Joint
in the south loop on Sunday, October 5th.  We're having it at Reggie's
so we can do some live nerdcore performances right afterwords.  Here's
a blog post I just did with all the details.'

And here's what I lifted from his post:

On Saturday, August 23rd, Amazing Fantasy Books (www.afbooks.com) will be holding their ‘Manga Mania’ event. Anime and Manga (pronounced mahn- gah) fans who come dressed as their favorite characters are eligible to win gift certificates and get extra discounts!

Which leads me to ask: Where were all the cute fangirls who dressed in Sailor Moon outfits when I was a young (er) fanboy?
