Amazing Spider-Man cover by Steve Ditko

I'm not sure how I feel about this.  With the current litigation between the estate of Jack Kirby and Marvel Comics/Disney escalating over the rights to several characters Kirby helped create with Stan Lee, I find it rather coincidental that there is a line of 'fine art' prints featuring Kirby's art being released, with Stan Lee in the forefront.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Stan Lee.  The mark he made on the comics industry back in the early days of Marvel is indelible.  And the man does deserve a lot of credit for helping create some of the most iconic heroes in comics.  But again, Kirby's estate is trying to regain control of the copyrights to many of these characters, and Steve Ditko - the man who  co-created Spider-Man with Lee - won't accept any ancillary revenue from the creation.  Leaving Lee as the sole front man for the venture that is supposed to be celebrating these artists.

Take a look for yourself at what's being offered:

I thought I'd celebrate my 101st blog posting by sharing a gift with all my readers.

The above animation was created by user 'etourist' on the Go Animate! web site.  I met the creator of Go Animate!, Alvin Hung, at the San Diego Comic Convention and was able to get an interview (click below):

Check the site out, create your own animations and share them with the rest of the G2M readers!

Winminiaturedogad

OK, I remember seeing these ads as a kid and wondering what the catch was.  Did you really get a miniature dog?  Once you completed all their requirements, would they really send you a tiny monkey?  Now, these days I know better.  Even if they actually sent you the promised critter, it wouldn't be good for anyone (just imagine that tiny monkey throwing tiny bits of primate poo around your house) but still...

If you're one of those folks who actually answered the ad, I'd like to know what happened.  My guess is that you got ripped off, as was wont with these old comic ads.  But maybe, just maybe, someone actually got that mini dog or primate.  You can comment or e-mail me your story!

(I always wanted that Polaris Submarine that you could send away for!)
