When you have the power to turn a mediocre book or product into mega sales, just by a mention on your show, your power influences, absolutely. That's Oprah Winfrey as she wills the audacity of daytime TV, and her broadcast omnipotence, deciding to throw a party on Michigan Avenue.
I was perplexed by Ms. Winfrey's will, but she's Oprah. She has Mayor Daley's blessings and that's basically all you need. In Times Square-like fashion, Oprah will shut down the Mag from Ohio to Wacker Drive.
The taping on September 8th will be a madhouse on Michigan, and did Oprah interface with Jay-Z? He will be at the House of Blues that night. The Loop will have a good day monetarily, but it will be overcrowded, causing some inconvenience for residents and commuters.
More power to you Oprah. If your show is so powerful that it can disrupt the lives of Chicagoans to add a little ratings boost and revenue into the mix, then we will accommodate your television hubris for the taping. I plan to shut down Bradley Place later this week. I'll post the photos at that time.

That is just crazy. Why does she need to shut down the Mag Mile? Again, crazy.

I don't mind that she's doing it and it is kinda neat. Although, I don't understand why she chose M. Ave when she could've done this in one of the parks. A view of the skyline would look better on TV than the view of M. Ave, no?
