Sometimes zeal is an admirable trait. In sports, politics, and entertainment, we need a little zeal to ward off the "haters" and to maintain confidence. But honoring Michael Jackson and the family when convenient, is not excusable. Where's the J5 museum, the J5 billboards, and the Jackson family road signs to 2300 Jackson Street? Having Jackson's body transported to Gary, IN, would be a spectacle. But are the motives of the mayor on the up-and-up?
Katherine Jackson, the Jackson matriarch, made it very plain on the Phil Donahue show years ago. When asked would she return to Gary, she said, "I don't think so...Gary is a very bad place." So I don't see her letting her baby return to G.I. for the funeral. Neverland, the Apollo, Hitsville USA (Motown), but probably not, Gary.
Isn't it strange that James Dean (Jimmy) has more honor, fanfare, and memorabilia surrounding his life in Warsaw, IN, than the Jacksons have in Gary? The rebel acting genius only made a few movies, but his celebrity still gets the hero treatment in Warsaw. They haven't forgotten - and consequently, we haven't.

The ridicule for the Jackson family must stop, and it must stop in Gary first. The world's most famous human being should be honored in Gary, but as a burial ground...well, Encino will do.
Keep pushing Mayor Clay...this may be the economic development tool that you've been needing for quite some time. But will it increase employment and reduce crime? For a little while.

GML ... the Jackson family will never allow his body to be buried in Gary. Mayor Clay is living a dream. Maybe he should look elsewhere to try and save his city from poverty and crime!

Forget the issue of burial;If Mayor Clay misses the opportunity to bring business to Gary via a "Jackson Museum" it will show some sad things about the vision of the leadership in Gary.

So many times we here the good and the bad about a person who had made it into the lime life, but they had to start somewhere; just like Michael Jackson, he started in Gary.
My comment is: Gary was the corner stone of the Jackson's story, therefore, instead of MJ buying mountains, building Neverland and or whatever, he should have build up, erected sometime in Gary to give back something to bring in jobs or some other resource to benefit Gary; that would have been a great legacy to leave behind.
Not only MJ, but all others who have made it big should leave a beneficial legacy in their hometown; that's a true giving back.
