Nintendo Files To Trademark the Phrase "It's On Like Donkey Kong"

Yo, it's on like ______ Kong. OK, so I probably didn't have to leave out part of the phrase but I'm just covering my tracks. That's because Nintendo has filed a request U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the pop-culture phrase "It's on like Donkey Kong."

It's actually sort of a publicity stunt to promote the Nov. 21 release of "Donkey Kong Country Returns" on the Wii.

According to Urban Dictionary, the phrase "It's On Like Donkey Kong" was first used by Ice Cube in the song "Now I gotta Wet'cha" in 1992, but it's been used in various music, television and movies since then and it's a pretty big pop culture staple at this point.

Urban Dictionary's most popular definition calls it - "A phrase to denote that it's time to throw down or compete at a high level; something is about to go down. The use of the comical video game character Donkey Kong provides comic relief but the phrase itself has greater or more significance than simply its on."

Quick, someone warn "King of Kong"'s Billy Mitchell!
