Several video game news websites are reporting that Chicago game developer Robomodo has lost the Tony Hawk franchise and laid off a large portion of their staff.

Gamasutra cites "a reliable source within the Chicago development community" that revealed this information. Meanwhile, Kotaku reports that 30 to 60 jobs are being cut from Robomodo due to the loss of the Tony Hawk franchise.

Robomodo, creators of Tony Hawk: Ride, just last month finished up the sequel "Tony Hawk: Shred." The game will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii on Oct. 26.

In a statement to Gamasutra, Robomodo president Josh Tsui confirmed: "It is always difficult to let hard-working and valued employees go. Robomodo has retained all of the company's directors and leads, along with other staff members."

"All are busy working on future projects and ideas, which will become the innovative games of tomorrow," he said. "We hope to bring back some of our team as we ramp up on our next projects."

"Tony Hawk: Ride" released in November of 2009, was the first in a reboot for

a franchise first introduced to gamers on the first PlayStation in 1999.

Sales-wise, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions combined to sell less than 900,000 copies according to VGChartz.com.
