Michael Jordan Might Be Returning To The Court! (OK, In A Video Game)

Hey Chicago, forget about this LeBron guy, because Michael Jordan might be coming out of retirement soon. To a video game console that is.

Jordan might be selected to appear on the cover of this year's NBA 2K11 and appear as a playable character in the game, according to a report by ESPN's Gamer Blog. The Gamer's Jon Robinson cites initial rumors that had LeBron, Tyreke Evans or a more recent Bulls' star - Derrick Rose as the new cover boy. But "multiple sources" told ESPN that Air Jordan will instead be the cover boy.

There's also rumors that 2K Sports have been in negotiations with several of Jordan's teammates and opponents from that era (Celtics, Knicks, Cavs) to appear in "2K11" to help recreate the old school rivalries. (Somehow I doubt the Jazz's Bryon Russell and a few others would be involved after Jordan's Hall of Fame speech).

Jordan, who played his last game with the Bulls after winning his sixth title in 1998 and retired for the final time in '03 with the Wizards, would be the first retired athlete to appear on the cover of a 2K game.

Because of a licensing agreement, Jordan usually doesn't appear as a character in video games, even current games that have "90's All Star" teams. Hopefully, Jordan in 2K11 would make up for his last video game appearance - the craptacular "Chaos in the Windy City" - a 1994 SNES sidescrolling platformer where Jordan attacked enemies with superpowered basketballs to rescue teammates for an All-Star charity game.

**Nerdly interruption**
Actually, MJ appeared as a playable character in NBA Live 2000 (with mike-like abilities!)
