Admit it, Battlestar Galactica nerds - there's a small part of your brain that has wondered at least once "What if I am really a Cylon?"

Well, you may soon get the chance to actually be a Cylon. In a video game, that is.

That's because a new Battlestar Galactica MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online Game) was announced by NBC Universal and Bigpoint Games at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week, and it could potentially do for robots and space captains what World of Warcraft did for Orcs and Dwarves.

Of course, the Battlestar Galactica game, set to be released worldwide in August or September, is set some major differences from the reigning king of MMO's.
Instead of paying for a $50 game and having to pay a monthly subscription fee, the game will be played for free over a web browser.

Here are more details about the game according to a press release issued by NBC and Bigpoint:

"Players will be able to choose to play as cylons or humans in a constant struggle to control the universe or just survive its perils. A blend of tactical space combat, exploration, and mission-based gameplay will provide a diverse experience.
The dramatic missions will define the game's overall storyline, enabling the player to delve into mysteries of the Battlestar universe.

Battlestar Galactica Online will create a new standard for web games, with beautiful 3d graphics and innovative game mechanics bringing a new level of game play to browser based MMOG. Assets from the television production will be integrated into the game to deliver an even more authentic experience."

That all sounds good, but all that we ask is that we don't have to play through an interactive love scene between President Rosalyn and Admiral Odama. Seriously.
