TV Newscasts: 1977 vs. 2009

I'm a fan of several things. Mostly food, sauces and dancing.

After watching the pride of CNN, Rick Sanchez on and off for a bit one day, I realized that Twitter, the most useful website on the planet, was in fact getting more screen time than the actual "breaking" news.

That sparked my fancy to journey back to a time before the internet, when TV stations were king. Thanks to YouTube, I present to you a newscast from Chicago, 1977.

To me, everything seemed a bit more honest back in then. The show was shot on film, reporters were straightforward and the on-screen graphics were simple and minimal.

Here is where we are today.

Of course, the above video is an edited exaggeration of the show, but it isn't far from the truth. Realistically, Twitter only takes up about 60% of the time.

Technical Directors please take note, news broadcasts do not have to look like a commercial for Sunday Night Football. Less is more.

P.S. when is news not breaking anymore?
