Daily Deal Site Shakeout Begins With Adility Exit

It was only a matter of time before the shakeout began to weed out the weakest of the umpteen daily deal sites out there vying to take market share from Groupon. Today I got this email from the first to fall. Now, I think Adility is some much larger company that just tried their hand at daily deals; it's not like the whole company went out of business or anything.

Dear Adility Deal Subscriber,

Effective October 1, 2010 we will no longer be offering daily deals at
adilitydeal.com.  We know that over the last several months you have enjoyed receiving heavily discounted offers and coupons to your favorite local merchants from us. During that time, we've enjoyed the process of helping you to discover your neighborhood while at the same time giving you a really good deal. So, although we are discontinuing adilitydeal.com, we will ensure that you continue to receive the same great deals that you've come to expect from us.  Starting tomorrow, you will receive your local daily deals from our partner DailyDealster who will continue to provide you with great customer service and even better deals. Thank you for being a valued customer and we hope to see you around the neighborhood.

The Adility Deal Team.

I just noticed that the Buffalo Groupon for today is a 70% discount from Photobook America -- $115 worth of high-end photo books for $35. You can buy as many as you want, but can only use one Groupon per order.

This seems like an even better deal than the Zazzle offer for making holiday gifts. Since you can buy more than one, you can upload all your photos to the one site and either make multiple books for different people, or send lots of people copies of the same book. You can only make one book per order, but you can order more than one copy of that book with your Groupon.

Shipping is $10-$30, depending on what kind of book you get, and you can't use the Groupon toward shipping.

I bought two of these babies, considering whether to buy more to make my holiday shopping that much easier.

Chicago Daily Deals From Groupon, YouSwoop and More: Botox! LEGO! Chocolate!

Here are the offers from Chicago's daily deals sites for Tuesday, September 21. Some are available for more than a day; check the individual sites for details and restrictions. I think this is a new watermark for daily deals: You can get Botox with Plum District today. Botox! Next, I'll be redeeming a Groupon for a mammogram.

I'm not the Botox type, but I AM excited about this LEGO KidsFest. Follow the jump to BuyWithMe for $10 tickets to that.

50% off Costello Sandwiches and Sides. That's $5 for a $10 voucher for the Lincoln Square or Roscoe Village locations. There are suburban Groupons for Arlington Heights, Winnetka and Lake Villa.

Groupons From Other Cities That You Can Buy Anywhere

I just went on a wanton Groupon spending spree. How could that be, you ask, when there are only two Chicago Groupon deals available today and one of them is in Plainfield, Ill., and when the heck did Plainfield, Ill. become part of the Chicago area?

Here's how: I started browsing the Groupons offered in other cities. Sometimes, as you probably know, Groupon offers discounts for Web sites, which anyone anywhere can buy. Even if the Web deal is only offered on the Cleveland or Miami Groupon page.

Here are the Web deals from other cities today:

The 50% off Zazzle deal is now in San Diego, and good all weekend -- $25 for $50 worth of custom photo gifts.

65% off a photo printed on a canvas from Canvas on Demand

67% off at Wine Insiders' Online Store -- $25 for a $75 credit and shipping is free if you buy a case.

60% off swimwear at Hapari -- $20 for a $50 voucher, shipping not included

I got all this info, by the way, from a blog called Groupon Roundup. As much as I'd love to be your sole Groupon-related information source -- since I use affiliate links and earn Groupon credits when you sign up through me -- you might want to check that Web site when looking for online deals beyond Chicago.

Completely Free $25 Gift Certificate to Grotto Oak Brook

Freezooka_FNL_v2.png

Buyzooka! It's  a daily deal site! It's doing one of its "Freezookas" today, which means they're just giving stuff away. I love that.

What they're giving away today is a $25 gift certificate to Grotto Oak Brook, an Italian steakhouse in the Promenade Shopping Center out there. There is no minimum order, although they will kindly calculate an 18% tip for you based on the pre-discounted price of your meal.

They have 2,000 of these, and 645 are gone. (One to me, thankyouverymuch.) So scoot!

Chicago Daily Deals From Groupon, YouSwoop and More: Zazzle, Redeo and Some Local Deals Too

Zazzle_com_3.jpg

Here are the offers from Chicago's daily deals sites for Thursday, September 16. Some are available for more than a day; check the individual sites for details and restrictions.

Groupon

Heads up, here's a "secret" online Groupon deal: 50% off photo products at Zazzle.com. That's $25 for a $50 credit, tax and shipping not included. It's really the Tulsa deal of the day, but since it's online you can order it from anywhere. I recently took advantage of a coupon code to get some business cards made and shipped for free from Zazzle, and I found the process to be easy and the cards quality. If you are Christmas shopping with fake money like I am, this would be a good way to get some gifts or have your photo cards made.

50% off at Caponies Trattoria. That's $10 for a $20 voucher to the pizza place, dine-in only. 47% off entry to Chicago Gourmet. That's $89 for a one-day entrance to the Millennium Park event, normally $169. There are also suburban deals for Niles and Tinley Park.

The new deal site for today, by reader request, is Plum District. Today's offer there is 50% off Our Baby boutique in Chicago. $15 for $30 to spend on nursery stuff.

YouSwoop

59% off at The Ultimate School of Guitar. That's $29 for 3 guitar lessons and 2 voice lessons, normally $70, at the North Lakeside Cultural CenterStill available: 88% off laser hair removal at Spa La La. That's $150 for 8 treatments, the recommended number for one area. Regular cost $1,200. 32% off Dave Matthews Band rooftop tickets. That's $99 for the concert plus all you can eat and drink. Plus, YouSwoop is giving away a pair of rooftop tickets for DMB in a contest. (And you can enter on this ChicagoNow blog to win another pair of DMB tickets.)

Chicago Daily Deals From Groupon, YouSwoop and More: Hair Removal, Eco-Friendly Baby Gifts

Here are the offers from Chicago's daily deals sites for Wednesday, September 15. Some are available for more than a day; check the individual sites for details and restrictions.

Groupon

Never mind: Despite the problems, the deal sold out already. In what has become a recurring problem for Groupon, there is again a discrepancy between one of Groupon's offers today and what the company says it will provide. The page today says 54% off gourmet cupcakes from Foiled, a delivery-only bakery that serves much of Chicago and the Western Burbs. That's $19 for a dozen cupcakes, including tax and delivery, normally $41. All fine so far. But the Groupon describes 20 flavors, including Pinkalicious So Delicious and Cinnful Apple, which sound so cool. But Foiled's Web site says you're limited to four flavors of their choice, including "Plain Jane," which doesn't sound so neat to me. Still a good deal -- in fact I bought 4 Groupons since they can be combined -- but Groupon has really got to buckle down on making sure the venders will stand by what the deal description promises or risk losing the credibility it has built up.

Other Groupon deals today include 50% off at Jerusalem cafe in Oak Park, 52% off Hubbard St. Dance, and suburban deals for Summit and Arlington Heights.

YouSwoop

88% off laser hair removal at Spa La La. That's $150 for 8 treatments, the recommended number for one area. Regular cost $1,200. 50% off at India House. That's $20 for a $40 voucher at the West Grand or Schaumburg locations -- worth $50 on weeknights.

There are suburban deals for Frankfort, Evanston, Schaumburg (pass to GameWorks), and in Riverside the deal is half price at the Chew Chew train cafe. (I'm buying.)

YouSwoop

50% off at India House. That's $20 for a $40 voucher at the West Grand or Schaumburg locations -- worth $50 on weeknights. 80% off carpet cleaning. That's $55 for 500 square feet of cleaning from BFJ Cleaning Services. 70% off The Heckler fan passes. Chicago Daily Deals From Groupon, YouSwoop and More: Car Wash, Bikram Yoga, The Improv

Here are the offers from Chicago's daily deals sites for Monday, September 13. Some are available for more than a day; check the individual sites for details and restrictions.

Premier-Car-Wash-and-Detail-Center.jpg

Groupon

I got very excited about Groupon today because they were offering half-price at Peapod. Then I read the fine print and decided it wasn't such a good deal, and THEN before I even got a chance to post it, Groupon labeled the deal Sold Out with only 500 bought. Now I'm wondering if this is another instance of Groupon working too hastily and putting a deal out there that isn't worthy of their brand. (It happened last week when they pulled a limo deal.)

But there are still good Groupons available today, including 78% off Bikram yoga, 53% off Microdermabrasion, 63% off car washes (I bought three of this one), and 56% off Riot Fest. There are suburban deals for Oak Forest and Oakbrook Terrace.

YouSwoop

80% off carpet cleaning. That's $55 for 500 square feet of cleaning from BFJ Cleaning Services. 70% off The Heckler fan passes. That's $15 for a two-year membership that gets you discounts at restaurants, etc., plus a digital subscription to the sports satire magazine. 50% off at Allstars Sports Bar & Grill. That's $20 for a $40 voucher to the W. Wacker bar.

Groupon65% off a limo ride from Executive Chauffering. That's $39 for a one-hour ride, worth up to $110. (Check the discussion on this one -- sounds like it is not as advertised and I'm returning the two I purchased.) (Deal cancelled because Groupon is too awesome to work with companies that try to reneg on their terms.) 54% off season subscription to the American Theater Co. That's $65 for five plays, worth $140. 50% off French food at Cite. That's $30 for a $60 voucher to the Lake Shore Drive restaurant.

There are suburban deals for Schaumburg and Orland Park.

YouSwoop

91% off a one-hour photo shoot, 20 retouched photos and 30 hi-res images on a CD.  That's $35 for a session with Coconut Dolly in your home or on locations, normally $400. 44% off mani-pedi at Paint Nail Boutique at 930 Diversey Parkway. That's $24 for the service, normally $43.

Gleeday Deals Site Is Up and Running for Oak Park/River Forest With Ga-Ga Girls Deal

gagagirls.jpg

Gleeday is yet another daily deals site, but unlike Groupon and other sites, this one focuses on the suburbs. They have now launched their Oak Park/River Forest deals, much to my delight. And even more to my delight is the deal they have up today: 55% off at Ga-Ga Girls, a "boutique on a budget" on North Ave. in Oak Park.

That's $10 for a $21 voucher. The store sells both new clothes and "nearly new." I've been meaning to check it out for quite some time, and now I have a little push to do so.

Use the menu at the top of the page to select among deals for Park Ridge (78% off at Go Figure gym) or Oak Park/River Forest. Looks like they're planning to add La Grange, Schaumburg, Naperville, Libertyville and Arlington Heights.

The rest of today's Chicao daily deals are here.

Chicago Daily Deals From Groupon, YouSwoop and More: IGo Car Sharing, Brand BBQ, Chicago River Kayaking

Here are the offers from Chicago's daily deals sites for Tuesday, September 7. Some are available for more than a day; check the individual sites for details and restrictions.

igo-car-sharing.jpg

Groupon

Listen up! The national deal, 67% off a hardcover 20-page book from Shutterfly, is still valid today. That's $10 for the 8x8 book, normally $30. I would note that deep discounts and freebies are not uncommon for photo sites, especially around the holidays, and that you will still have to pay shipping. That said, this would make a good Christmas gift if you can be that organized by the time this Groupon expires Nov. 22.

53% off at Brand BBQ Market. That's $7 for a $15 voucher to the Logan Square eatery. 55% off at Falaffil in Lakeview. That's $5 for an $11 voucher to the assemble-it-yourself mediterranean restaurant. 52% off at The Big Easy near the University of Chicago. That's $12 for $25 worht of Cajun food.

There are suburban deals for Morton Grove, Naperville and Highwood.

YouSwoop

50% off at Elate restaurant. That's $20 for a $40 voucher to the restaurant inside the Hotel Felix in River North. 50% off a 3-hour kayak tour on the Chicago River That's $30 for the tour, normally $60. 65% off iGo Car Sharing. That's $45 for a one-year membership plus $40 driving credit, a $115 value.

Chicago Daily Deals From Groupon, YouSwoop and More: Chili, Kids' Language Classes, Hemmingway's Bistro

Here are the offers from Chicago's daily deals sites for Thursday, September 2. Some are available for more than a day; check the individual sites for details and restrictions.

cinners.png

The new deal site I'm adding today is DealOn. They seem to have a slightly different gimmick: The price you pay goes down as more people sign on. So right now they're selling a 30% discount coupon for Cinner's of Chicago (a ... "chili parlour???" ... near Lincoln Square) for $9.33, but it could go as low as $7. Adds a bit of excitement, don't you think?

Groupon

50% off at Hemmingway's Bistro in Oak Park: That's $20 for a $40 voucher to a restaurant I have never heard of even though I live in Oak Park. Oh well, it has good reviews on Yelp and I'll be checking it out now. Side deal: 50% off at the Cupcake Gallery in Uptown. That's $5 for $10 worth of cupcakes. Side deal: 56% off at Sabor Saveur. That's $20 for a $45 voucher to the Wicker Park restaurant. (Hm, should I try this? Wicker Park is not so far, and it's BYOB.) There is a suburaban deals for Northbrook and Vernon Hills: half off at Roti Meditarranean Grill.

YouSwoop

56% off at Sabor Saveur. What a coincidence! Again, $20 for a $45 voucher. 70% off Cubs rooftop tickets. That's $59 for a seat on the roof and unlimited food and drink. Still available: 75% off at Pure Vibes Fitness. That's $25 for five kickboxing classes, normally $100.

There are two deals today for organic/natural/toxin-free personal care products and other stuff. One is MamaLoot's offer of 52% off at Greeno Bambino, and the other is EverSave's 60% off at Lee-Lai. I like these deals because they make it easier for me to "do the right thing" and get safe products for my family. And as always we are low on sippy cups so Greeno Bambino is looking good!

Groupon

50% off at Fly Bird in Oak Park: That's $15 for a $30 voucher for the neato gift shop. (I like that store and will definitely be buying.) Side deal: 62% off at Team iFit. Groupon: One Movie Ticket for $4 From Fandango

Reader Barbara just sent me a great Groupon deal that I didn't know about: Get a movie ticket for any of Fandango's 16,000 screens nationwide for just $4.

Like the $4 ticket for AMC Theaters you can get on KGB.com, you can only buy one. So if you wanna go on a date, you'll have to get your honey to log on and buy themselves their own damn ticket.

This is apparently on the Orange County Groupon site today, but anyone nationwide can buy it. And yes -- this is how it always works for Groupns, so if you see a great Web deal in another city, snag one and then let me know!

Let's see: tandem Skydiving, check. Couples Massage, check. Brazilian wax, check. Sounds like the perfect date. What? You don't do it in that order? (OK, to be honest? I will skip part I and part III and linger on that middle part. You just go on ahead without me.)

Chicago Daily Deals From Groupon, YouSwoop and More: Groupon Gap Deal

Here are the offers from Chicago's daily deals sites for Thursday, August 19. Some are available for more than a day; check the individual sites for details and restrictions.

Hey, Western Suburbanites! I just found out about a deal site for Oak Park and the surrounding area called Gleeday. They say they'll post about three deals a week. Today, it's half off at 2 Sisters Boutique in Park Ridge. (Hmm, I wouldn't consider that near Oak Park, but let's go with it.) $12 for a $25 voucher.

Groupon

50% off at Gap. That's $25 for a $50 voucher good on both sale and regular price stuff. Side Deal: (I bought this!) 50% off at Gruppo di Amici. That's $20 for a $40 voucher for the Rogers Park restaurant.

15 Percent Off First Order at Soap.com or Diapers.com -- or 50% Off

UPDATE 1: Officials at Soap.com told me today that the SHIP25 coupon code does stack with "all offers." Nice!

UPDATE 2: Look what was waiting on my porch already this afternoon. I just ordered Monday. Impressive.

soapcommedium.jpg

After I wrote the following post, I saw Money Saving Mom's post that daily deal site Ideeli is selling a $20 voucher to Soap.com for $10 through the end of today. I get the impression that you can use a coupon code along with the promotion code you'll get from Ideeli, so you may be able to combine that deal with the following deal.

At BlogHer, Diapers.com had a booth with their new sister site, Soap.com. It's like Alice.com -- it sells toilet paper and aspirin and other drugstore stuff.

If you want to try it out, use the coupon code CARR0281 to take 15 percent off your first order. (The bummer is, if you already belong to Diapers.com, they don't consider you new to Soap.com. On the upside, the code works at Diapers.com too.)

That's a unique coupon code just for my readers, and, yes, if you use it to make a purchase I'll get an affiliate payment. By way of further disclosure, I picked up a card at their BlogHer booth with a one-time use coupon code that I used to get myself some free stuff.

Oh, and looks like the coupon code SHIP25 gets you free shipping. So unless the codes stack, use your judgement about which one gets you a better deal.

The fine print: While I do participate in affilate programs (see my full disclosure on my About page), I don't generally accept gift cards or payments from companies looking for coverage here. I usually steer the offering company to bestow their generosity on the readers instead with a giveaway. And in fact many of the coupons I picked up at BlogHer are headed to giveaway-land. However, I decided that stuff I picked up at BlogHer is ok to use myself if I want to, since it was available for the taking to anyone who paid $300 to attend that conference. What I mean is, I don't take payments or discounts that are offered to me only because I write this blog. But a freebie that's on a table at a trade show for anyone to pick up? That seems like fair game.

Will Groupon Burn Itself Out? Be a Good Grouponer

groupon.jpg

Yesterday the Tribune had a business story about Groupon's effect on the local businesses using it to offer deals.

The drift is that a lot of the businesses that participate are losing money and being overwhelmed by the response. Some are also irked by the behavior of customers who show up with Groupons.

As a heavy Groupon user, I sure hope that these growing pains get worked out, because I don't want the deals to stop! Sounds like Groupon is working hard to make sure businesses are prepared for the Groupon effect.

As far as the quality of Groupon customers? Well, I must admit we bargain-hunters are guilty of some of the merchants' complaints. I don't use a Groupon with an eye to becoming a long-term customer -- I'm more likely to get my hair done on a Groupon and then go to the next place that offers a Groupon deal the next time I need to go. 'Course, it doesn't always work that way. When I went into The Book Table in Oak Park for the first time with a Groupon, I was really impressed with the store and am likely to return.

Merchants also complain that Groupon users try not to spend beyond the amount of the certificate. Guilty as charged!

However, I am not guilty of the accusation that Groupon users don't tip. I follow the rules of Groupon etiquette and tip generously!

I'd also urge users to be a little understanding that businesses are being pushed to new heights of busy-ness when they offer a Groupon discount. For instance, a maid service that I booked through Living Social called yesterday to see if their crew could show up at my house at 8 a.m. instead of 9 a.m. Well, I don't really want them to be in my house at 8 a.m., but I said sure. After all, I'm getting a great deal so I figured I could help them out a little.

It would also be generous to let your Groupon or other purchased coupon cool a bit before use. Apparently the largest percentage of Groupons are redeemed in the first and last months of validity, so it would help the issuing merchants a little if you use one on month 3, say.

Disclosure: This post contains an affiliate link to Groupon so I can get rich while you save. For my full disclosures, see my About page.

New Chicago Daily Deal Site: Mamaloot

There are so many Chicago daily deal sites out there right now -- and don't get me wrong, I adore almost all of them what with the steep discounts and also the steep discounts. But don't you think someone would have the idea to target the deals a bit more, so I could be sure when I check their site each day that they're going to be offering something I'd conceivably be interested in?

1280919360Carley%20Lindsay%20Final.jpg

Someone out there just read my mind, and the result is Mamaloot.

Mamaloot is going to offer Chicago daily deals too, but unlike Groupon, these deals are all specifically for families. Their debut deal is 50% off a session with Carley Kay photography, plus a free 8x10 print. That's $75 for up to two hours, five people and two outfit changes, with this photographer who is also a mom.

I'll be adding Mamaloot to my daily deal writeups.

Good luck!

Today's Groupon: Cheap Sunday Tribune = Cheap Coupons

For quite awhile it's been possible to get a Sunday-only Tribune subscription for just 99 cents a week, and since I'll use more than $1 worth of coupons from the average Sunday paper, I've been meaning to add an extra subscription in my husband's name.

But I'm glad I never got around to it! Because today's Groupon is a whole year of Sunday Tribunes for just $13. I just noticed this on Mashup Mom, who calculated that this is a cost of 25 cents a week!

One per household, but you can get additional Groupons as gifts -- I got one for my mom and dad as well as for my hubby. There is some question of whether they will delivery this deal to another name at the same address as an existing subscription -- if not, I'll just gift both subscriptions to relatives or neighbors who will appreciate the free paper and save me the coupons.

Tips for Eating Out on a Coupon or Certificate

Between Restaurant.com, GrouponYouSwoop and all these other daily deal sites out there now, lots of us are using a coupon or discount certificate every time we eat out. So I was glad to see this little post with a few reminders to mind our coupon manners:

Kyla Kyles wrote up these tips for using a Groupon when you dine, like showing the coupon right away and remembering to tip on the pre-coupon price. Have you wondered whether the server is silently judging you when you show one of those things? She's got some interesting quotes from the servers on this post too.

Later this morning, I'll post a rundown of all the Chicago daily deal sites' deals of the day. It's something I'm trying out as a daily feature -- do you like it?

Oh, and psst! Restaurant.com certificates are 80 percent off through the end of the month with the coupon code FLAG.

Do Upside Down Tomato Planters Work at All?

tomato.jpg

Every year I conduct a small-scale war against squirrels. The only casualties are tomatoes, usually taken long before their time, crudely bitten and then left to die on the lawn.

I so want to grow my own organic tomatoes -- what could be more frugal? So this year I want to bring in some more advanced defense technology, like maybe netting or screening. But have you ever tried these upside-down tomato planters? I've heard mixed reports, but at $5.99 on Dillyeo today (plus $5.99 shipping), I guess I have very little to lose.

The planters aren't on Dillyeo anymore today, but I'd still like to hear if you've used these things with any success.

Have you used an upside-down planter? Please tell us about it in the comments if you have! Or if you have any other anti-squirrel tips I'll gladly take those too.

Eat for Cheap Whether You're Highbrow, Midbrow or Lowbrow Today

fancydinerssmartwentcrazy.jpg

Highbrow cheap eats: Today's Groupon is a $30 three course meal at Spring, named by Zagat as the top seafood restaurant in Chicago.

Midbrow cheap eats:

People rave about these Kitchens of India ready-made meals, on manager's special at Amazon for $1.47 each (when you buy a pack of 6 at $8.82). There are only two kinds left! Guess these won't last til I get my new infusion of Amazon gift cards Saturday from SwagBucks. (Oh, and order through Subscribe & Save to take off an additional 15%.)

Lowbrow free eats:

Don't forget those free CheezIts at Dominick's with the coupon from Jewel. Limit 3 -- I'm wondering if anyone would be well served if I make multiple trips and donate a full grocery bag of them to the Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

Wash your Cheez-Its down with some highbrow coffee: Today's YouSwoop is a $40 credit at NeedCaffeine.com for $20. (Oh YES I am buying that one. Now.)

Cheap Waxing and Other Daily Chicago Deals

vanzwax.jpg

They say you should take some ibuprofin before you go in to get waxed, but honestly? That's for weenies. The first time I ever got waxed was 6 weeks after having my first baby, and as the young woman pulled off the strips and apologized profusely, I just laughed. You call that pain?

The cost of smooth, smooth skin for spring break or summer bathing suits, though? That hurts me. Hurts me deep.

So I'm considering grabbing today's YouSwoop offer: $35 for $75 worth of waxing at Suite Escape Hair Studio on N. Clark. (If you're not already a YouSwoop member, sign up through me so I can get rich!* I promise I'll still be frugal if I do.)

The Daily Deals: Tuesday Feb. 16 ComedySportz, Yoga, Wii and Night Lights

What day could be more blah than Feb. 16, eh? At least it's sunny out. And at least the daily deals around Chicago and beyond are pretty good today. Here's a rundown:

YouSwoop: $10 for a seat and a drink at ComedySportz, a 63% discount. This is at Belmont//Sheffield and the certificate is good through 4/17.

Groupon: $50 for a week of Yoga classes plus a 10-class pass. A 58% discount, this is good at Bend Yoga & Movement Studio at 906 N. Damen.

TwoBuckDuck: $16 Discount at Lincoln Park's Sapori Trattoria for $2

The Kids' Woot today is a cute pair of nightlights for $17.99 so siblings can eat have their own.

Target's Daily Deal is a cute peace sign bag and shirt combo for $5 shipped, but the page will not load for me right now. Is it because the daily deal is going fast? Who knows.

On Amazon the Gold Box deal and the Lightning Deals are all Wii stuff.

So Many Chicago Daily Deals

Today's Groupon is a ticket to the Chicago Hauntings Ghost Tour for $14, which is half price. You can also buy a child ticket for $10. I always thought those things sounded fun.

There are some new Groupon-like daily deal sites in town now: YouSwoop, You've Gotta Get It and Two Buck Duck.

Today's YouSwoop offer is one month of nutrition tracking and personal training at TeamFIT (LaSalle and Erie) for $40 -- a $69 discount. This means you can meet with a personal trainer for half an hour up to twice a day. (It's not necessarily one-on-one -- you might have up to eight people with you so I guess it's more like a small class.)

Today's You've Gotta Get It is a child's dance class for $5 at the Mazi Dance Center, normally $18.

Oh! I previously mentioned yet another site like this, called We Give to Get, which throws in a charity component. Well, today the item at We Give to Get is a $55 gift certificate for some "River North hot spot" called Zealous for $25, AND $2.50 of your purchase price goes to Disaster Relief Services for Haiti. (Or you can select a different charity.)

Today's YouSwoop Deal: 60% Off Laundry Delivery

laundry.jpg

I love the idea of having washed, folded laundry delivered to my door. And it's a GREAT new baby gift. Today's YouSwoop offer is $50 worth of picked-up and delivered laundry or dry cleaning for $20 from Drive Cleaning.

Their service area covers a large swath of the north and central city, and an even larger swath of parts northwest. And, hey -- Oak Park, where I live. I may have to grab this one.

I'm less enchanted with today's Groupon (three months of a wine club for $60) and today's Woot (cheap digital cameras on caribiners).

Daily Deals: Gym Membership, Netbook, Mani-Pedi

Deals of the day for Chicago and beyond include cheap gym classes, cheap netbook and a cheap mani-pedi:

  • Here's an addition to the New Year's gym membership deals, but today only -- YouSwoop's deal of the day is $24 for 8 classes or day passes to Id Gym (2727 Lincoln Ave.), and if you join you get $100 if you join. Kind of like a trial membership, except you can use them until midsummer. First-timers only.
  • I was tempted at first by today's Woot -- a refurbished Acer Aspire One netbook for $219.99. Until I read this comment from Yake2: "I went to New Egg and bought an new one that's an inch bigger, with bigger keys, much faster and double the hard drive for $10 more."
  • I do want an Acer Aspire to replace my sickly Toshiba, but if that's how it is I'd rather have a new one than a refurb. You can buy an extended warranty on Woot, though, if you do grab that one.
  • Today's Groupon is a mani-pedi at Juko (2130 W. Division) for $20, regular price $40. Sounds good, but too far from my house. And I still have two massages to use up from my Sooth Your Senses Groupon.
