Our $80 Shopping Budget

quakerdeal.jpg

This week I spent $92 on groceries, which is $12 over my $80 budget. In a separate post, I will for the first time let you know how much I saved, and how much time I spent to save it. The photo above shows my haul just from Jewel-Osco ($13.27) and CVS ($2).

I spent $24.37 at Pan's Foods. The highlights were free Post cereal, pickles for $1.50 a jar after coupon, Kraft cheese for $1.39/8 oz. after coupon and Ball Park franks for 50 cents after coupon.

I spent $2 at CVS. Did the Pepsi deal and picking up some pretzels (for Epu's card night) and milk. (I used $10 ECBs and also got $10 ECBs back so what I paid was mostly tax.) And on another trip I used mostly ECBs to buy a Sunday paper and some cough drops.

I spent (about) $20 at Woodman's in Kenosha when we went to pick up our kids from my parents' house. I just got milk, bread, coffee, lots of flour and some udon noodle meals for Epu's lunches. (I can't find my receipt but I think it was around $20.)

I spent $35 at Dominick's on two take-and-bake pizzas @ $5 each, milk, beer for Epu's card night, infant cereal, organic salad mix, Doritos (for upcoming birthday party) and various other groceries. I got free cottage cheese because it was half-price for quick sale but rang up at full price.

I spent $13.27 at Jewel-Osco on the Quaker deal, a ton of bananas, some clearanced gingerbread biscotti, organic carrots, Mountain High yogurt, fruit cups, and whatnot. I used the $1/1 Wild Harvest coupon to get two pounds organic carrots for $1.

I also got $1.50 back from Jewel that I had been overcharged last week.

What we ate this week (breakfasts were cereal, oatmeal and fruit; lunches wer leftovers or sandwiches)

WEDNESDAY: canned soup for the kids, leftovers for parents

THURSDAY: homemade borscht with cabbage, chicken broth, onions, and homemade sweet potato bread garnished w/ sour cream and apples

FRIDAY: $5 pizza from Dominick's and salad, also brought a $5 pizza to mom's night out; Epu served donuts, pretzels, sodas and beer as card night snacks.

SATURDAY: ate out for breakfast AND lunch, just snacked for dinner (kids out of town)

SUNDAY: ate dinner at my mom's

MONDAY: oven-roasted Brussels sprouts with cheese sauce over pasta, acorn squash

TUESDAY: meatballs with veggies (a la that book about sneaking veggies into kids' food) out of the freezer, jar spaghetti sauce and whole wheat pasta; salad

Oh, and by the way, I had to add $10 to last week's spending because I had forgotten that Epu did the Pampers deal at Target for me. So when I said I was taking $12 off my meat debt, that wasn't accurate. I still owe $220.

What's this? Is this part of Dom's policy?

Yes, I believe it's both Dom's and Jewel's policy that if something rings up differently than on the shelf, it's free. I would not have thought of it but I was already at the service desk since I had forgotten to have my card scanned, and the great manager refunded me the full price of the item.
