People, Restaurant Week Is NOW

fancyfood.jpg

I probably should have told you that Restaurant Week started today. Forgive me if I was busy saving the world and all.

What's Restaurant Week? Once a year, a bunch of fancy -- and independent, great, etc. -- Chicago restaurants offer multicourse meals for the price of, well, a number similar to the date. This year, the meals will cost $29.10. Would be nice if they cost $20.10, no? I guess that just wasn't realistic.

Is it frugal to go out to dinner and spend $30 a person, probably hitting around $100 for two people when you count your drinks, tax and tip? Well, I guess it depends on your perspective. There was certainly a time when dropping $100 on a date was pretty normal for the hubs and I -- in the days of two incomes and 0 kids and anyway that was when we lived in San Francisco where everything was more expensive but oh the food.

If there's a participating restaurant that you've been longing to try, it's definitely a good time.
