More Ways for Cheapskates to Help Haiti Earthquake Victims

I'll add these to yesterday's Haiti donation post, but I wanted to highlight the new stuff I've come across today:

1. RecycleBank is a Web site that is kind of like Freecycle in that you can get free stuff and offer up stuff you want to give away. But unlike Freecycle, RecycleBank gives you points for participating and you can spend those points on coupons -- OR DONATE THEM. One of organizations you can donate to is the International Medical Corps, which is on the ground treating Haiti earthquake victims right now. You need 1,025 points to make a $10 donation to IMC.

Common Sense With Money -- who Tweeted about this opportunity -- has a lot of suggestions for quickly earning points on RecycleBank.

2. Donate Swagbucks -- this update is already on yesterday's post.

3. Spirit Airlines will give you 5,000 miles for a Red Cross Haiti donation of $5 or more -- or a UNICEF or Yele Foundation gift. That's enough for an off-peak roundtrip flight if you are a Spirit cardholder, apparently. That's from ChicagoNow blog Chicago Outbound.

4. Do you play online poker? (OK I'm guessing most readers of a frugal blog do not gamble online but you never know!) You can participate in a charity tournament or donate your winnings to Haiti victims, according to ChicagoNow blog The Windy City Rounder.

5. Let a blogger donate for you. Here are the offers I've seen where bloggers are willing to donate on behalf of readers:

  • If you have a blog, post about what you're doing for Haiti earthquake victims and add your link to Money Saving Mom Crystal Paine's post today -- she'll donate a whopping $10 for every person who links a Haiti post there. Her post also links to lots of other bloggers who will donate for you.
  • SitterCity.com (which blogs on ChicagoNow too) will donate $1 to the American Red Cross for every person who begins following them on Twitter @sittercity.
  • My fellow frugal blogger Common Sense With Money will donate 25 cents for every commenter on this post, up to 2,000 comments ($500). The post also has links to a whopping 48 other bloggers who will donate up on your behalf.
  • Another one for you bloggers -- these blogs will donate $5 if you link to their Haiti posts: Bargain Briana,  $5 Dinners, Mrs. Moneysaver. Hey, I just made $15 for Haiti!
