Must Reads for the Coupon Crazy and the Cheap

1. I loved this post on Chicago Now blog Etiquette Bitch: "When to Skip the Coupon." Really, do you think there is EVER  time when it's not ok to use a coupon? Alright, maybe on that first date.

(By the way I met @etiquettebitch in person recently and she was hardly bitchy at all.)

2. If you haven't already, check out this Slate piece about trying out the hard-core couponing methods embraced here and on other Web sites. It's a fun walk-through for those who are also thinking about trying aggressive couponing tactics, and will give you a laugh if you're already a crazy coupon lady or dude. You'll even recognize the specific Catalina deals the author refers to.

My favorite line:

" ... it wasn't the frozen peas or reduced sodium vegetable soup I was excited about. Like eBay, couponing made shopping feel like gambling."

Indeed. I get at least as much fun out of pulling off a triple-stacked Catalina deal as I would playing the slots -- and if I "lose," the worst-case scenario is that my groceries were only a pretty good deal and not a phenomenal deal.

3. Steph, author of another Chicago Now blog, Love in the Time of Foreclosure, has a lively description of trying to furnish her new apartment at a swap event. I would love to go to something like this!
