How I Spent Our $80 Grocery Budget: Nov. 4-Nov. 10

I spent $63 this week (which ended Tuesday for me), mostly stocking up on DiGiorno frozen pizzas with a coupon/sale combo. Since I went $15 over budget last week, that means I came in just under my $80 weekly grocery budget and I'm back to a clean slate for the current week.

I also acquired tons of food in the big Jewel Catalina deal, but I didn't pay for any of it. That's right, for about $200 worth of soup, broth, yogurt and other groceries, I paid nothing. Some of my transactions were small moneymakers, which, along with some of the $x/$xx coupons that have been popping up at Jewel lately, cancelled out the tax I paid on the break-even transactions.

Jewel Catalina transactions:

Trip 1: $39 (frozen pizzas, cheese, beer and wine and one $1 moneymaker $30 Catalina purchase of Chex Mix)

Trip 2: $16 (two $30 Catalina purchases of free soup, Kleenex, frosting, flour added up to a 10-cent profit, plus four DiGiorno pizzas)

Trip 3: -$4. Double-stacked Catalina purchase of ice cream, yogurt and broth was a $6 moneymaker, but I spent $2 on bread.

Trip 4: $0. Triple-stacked transaction of soup, broth and paper towels, cost was $7 but that was all paper towels and tax. (I don't count the purchase of paper towels toward my grocery budget, so this was just free broth and soup as far as the budget is concerned.)

I also spent $10 at Aldi on bananas, taco fixin's, butter and milk, and another $2 on milk at CVS.

You may notice I didn't mention buying any vegetables this week. We still had carrots, celery and a cabbage left over from last week, and my dad brought me another huge kale from his garden. I also have some frozen vegetables in my freezer from a prevoius Catalina deal. And in addition to the bananas I bought at Aldi this week, I still had pears and apples left from last week.

What we ate on our $80 budget this week (For breakfasts, we had cold cereal with yogurt or milk and fruit; oatmeal with raisins; coffee; cinnamon Grands and peanut butter or cheese toast, and Sunday breakfast out. For lunches, we had leftovers, macaroni & cheese, carrot sticks, salads or canned soup, and two lunches out.)

Wednesday: something I scrounged up

Thursday: tacos with leftover chicken meat, cheese, sour cream lettuce, onion and avocado

Friday: DiGiorno pizza with salad

Saturday: hot dogs cooked over fire, smores

Sunday: homemade chicken and cabbage soup with bread and salad

Monday: sirloin steak from our cow with a kale and pasta dish

Tuesday: Jane Brody's Colcannon, Yoplait Delights for dessert
