Best Deals in This Sunday's Coupons and Ads: Oct. 10

Ah, those Monday holidays. Loved by childless office workers but hated by work-at-home moms who have to figure out what to do with their kids with school out of session, and hated by couponers because holiday weekends don't usually have coupons. Except, this weekend there ARE coupons. In fact, there are great coupons if you are doing the ongoing "spend $10, get $3 instant savings" deal at Jewel-Osco.

This week you'll find a few Columbus Day sales, a lot of sales on Halloween costumes and decor, and even a few ways to prepare early for Christmas.

In the SmartSource, I noticed these coupons that will sweeten the Jewel instant savings deal:

$1/1 Nestle Toll House refrigerated cookie dough

$.55/2 Duncan Hines cake mix, frusting or brownie mix (this will make them under 50 cents each after coupon and instant savings! I am buying more of these this week!)

$1/2 Krusteaz muffin or crumb cake mix, $1/2 pancake mix (doesn't Krusteaz seem like a joke name for a product? Really, does that sound appetizing?)

$.75/1 Breyer's swirled yogurt Disney multipack (the $.75/1 coupons out before were specifically for Yo-Crunch, although they worked for this variety too)

CVS has a couple Halloween-related freebies this week: Nylon Treat bag @ 99 cents, get 99 cents ExtraBucks and Pumpkin Carving tool @ $1.99, get $1.99 ExtraBucks. These are nice for pumping up your purchase total if you are trying to use one of those $5/$25 coupons from taking the online flu quiz.

And here's a CVS deal I'm planning to do this week to get us some pizzas for Friday night movie night: "spend $15 on selected Kraft products, get $5 Extra Bucks." DiGiorno pizzas are $6. I'll buy 3 plus a gallon of milk as filler, use three $1.50/1 printables, and use the $4/$20 coupon I got in my email Thursday. My out-of-pocket total should be $9.50 for the pizzas. After the ExtraBucks, I'll be paying $4.50 for three frozen pizzas, or $1.50 each. (This week I paid $3 for Jack's frozen pizza and found it to be incredibly crappy. So this deal should make next week's movie night a little more satisfactory.)

For the rest of the CVS deals see I Heart CVS.

Target has a bunch of Market Pantry groceries on sale, including cheese for $1.50/8 oz. and fruit cups for $1.50/4-pack. There's a coupon for a $10 gift card with new or transferred prescription. There's a $100 gift card offer if you buy selected $599 cameras and a lens. Warm kids pjs are on sale (just in time). Lots of Halloween stuff is on sale.

And by the way, there are lots of toys on clearance for 75% off at Target right now.

Kmart has several Sunday and Monday only deals: Athletech goose down vests for women for $10, normally $40. They look similar to the vests Old Navy has for $15 through the weekend; kids and babies Halloween Ts for $4; Fisher-Price kids' shoes and character athletic shoes for $9.99. Halloween costumes 33% off, and if you spend $40 on Halloween stuff you get a coupon for 2 free bags of fun-size candy. There's a coupon for a $10 gift card with new or transferred prescription, and a manufacturer's coupon for $1 off gift wrap or bag if you buy 2 American Greetings cards.

Michael's and Jo-Ann both have a 50% off one item coupon in addition to their usual 40% off one item coupons. Happy Columbus Day!

Sears has an appliance sale going on (still? they had one when we bought our freezer a month ago). 20% off all Energy Star, 15% off other. And through Tuesday, you get an extra 5% off appliances if you use your Sears card. They say they also have other Columbus Day specials throughout the store.

Kohl's is running one of their deals where you pay $5 for a book or stuffed animal and they do something charitable for kids. A couple years ago they had Dog Train and the other fabulous Sandra Boyton books with CDs and I got lots of Christmas presents for just $5 a pop. This year the bokos are "If You Give a Moose a Muffin..." and two other titles from the same author. Not quite as good a deal as the books with CD, but still that's a good book that my 5-year-old gives a thumbs up so not a bag holiday gift for $5.

Toys R Us is taking $40 off the "R" DS Lite Value Bundle Sunday and Monday only. Video games and accessories are "buy 2, get one free" all week. Many Halloween costumes are 25% to 30% off. If you buy an Imaginarium train table for $79.99, you get a Spiral Train set free, $49.99 value. There's a store coupon for $2 off Seventh Generation diapers, Earth's Best diapers or gDiapers, which could be combined with the $1/1 Seventh Generation printable.

That's all I have for now. I'm in Milwaukee for a wedding, and the Sunday Journal Sentinel I got doesn't have any RedPlum or Walgreens in it, not to mention Chicago storse like Jewel and Dominick's.

CVS has Glade air fresheners on sale for 88 cents -- and I believe those would work with the SC Johnson rebate of $5 for any 3 items.

Also CVS has Nabisco 4 oz cookies & crackers for $1 (limit 5)- those would work with the Kraft "Pack a Smile back to school" rebate. This month's coupon from the booklet is $1 off two cookies or crackers.

My problem is that I bought all those items in the same transaction -- how can I send them both the "original receipt"? Thinking about going back to CVS to do a return/repurchase of the Glade so I have them on a separate receipt. Ugh. Have you ever asked CVS to print a duplicate receipt (at time of purchase)?
