Stop Them From Denying Your Coupons: Resources

In the past couple of weeks I wrote about approaches you can take when a cashier tries to tell you that you can't use a certain coupon. And I shared the results I got when I fought back on coupons -- mainly by contacting the chains' customer service lines. Today I'll share some resources that might help you when you go to battle. If you carry around a coupon binder, you might want to print the policies that might come in handy for you and keep them with you.

POLICIES FOR USING ALL COUPONS

Target http://www.target.com/b/ref=br_bx_4/192-9168409-2594745?ie=UTF8&node=2223357011

Wal-Mart

Walgreens (unfortunately this one is not hosted on the company Web site but at least sounds official) http://sensetosave.com/2007/11/05/walgreens-coupon-policy/

Mom on a Mission has a list of many stores' policies including Target, Walgreens, Kmart, WalMart and Dollar General (Personally I'd rather carry around individual policies printed from the store's Web sites, but since Kmart)

CVS apparently refuses to release a written coupon policy.

POLICIES for using PRINTABLE COUPONS

The Coupon Resource Center has some advice on what to do when cashiers won't take printable coupons, for instance, tell them to contact their own headquarters. You might tell a smaller, local retailer about this Web site if they seem suspicous of Internet coupons.

This is great information! For the first time, a Target cashier gave me a hard time about using multiple coupons -- Kashi, I think. I bought 5 and had 4 coupons and she told me it was "one per purchase". I said with that logic, I could only use 1 coupon for my entire order (Tide, handsoap, razors, etc). Ultimately, she made a call and said "just this once", but treated me like I was trying to steal something. After reviewing the receipt it was clear she did not scan all my coupons that she scattered about the register and counter so I complained to a manager & he gave me a couple Target credits. I love my Target but I will avoid that very customer-unfriendly cashier in the future.
