A Quickie: CVS and Jewel Transactions

Tonight I was only going to stop by CVS -- and that only because I had one of those free chocolate coupons that was expiring today. (They've been giving them out every Friday, but only untli 11:59 p.m. EASTERN TIME, so too bad I just thought about it now at 11:26 p.m. Central.)

But then at 8:30 I started making zucchini bread as our breakfast for tomorrow's block party. And then I noticed that the hubs had used up the eggs this morning cooking breakfast. The nerve, eh? Cooking breakfast for all of us while I lay there, unsuspecting, in bed.

So off to CVS and Jewel I went, with the baby in the Bjorn and pushing a stroller only as a grocery cart. Here's what I got (no pictures, it's late!):

CVS

I learned two good things about this week's deals; too bad they end tomorrow. But if you're going Saturday, keep in mind that a) The Duracell spend $15, get $5 deal includes rechargeables, which have that great $5/1 Q coming out of the machine AND a $2/1 Q in the 8/30 P&G insert; and b) You can use the $1/2 Absolutely Divine CVS brand cookies Q on the CVS brand candy as well -- and since some varieties of the candy are "buy 2 for $2, get $1ECB," the $1 Q makes them free after ECBs.

4-pack Duracell Rechargable AA $12.99

Poise 16-count panty liners            2.49

Dean's gallon milk                         1.99

Jewel

My General Mills and Kellogg's transactions went off exactly as planned, except that I didn't plan for my baby to wake up while I was shopping and spend the entire checkout process -- while I waited for the cashier to scan all those coupons -- wailing right into my face from his Baby Bjorn.

I just tried to do the Duracell deal, and no ECBs printed out for me. Did I do something wrong? I bought one pack of AAA rechargeables for $12.99 with a $2 Q, and bought a 4pk of Cs for $5.99 with a $.75 Q. My total even after coupons would have been over $15. The cashier didn't know anything about the Duracell promotion. Should I call CVS to ask them? What can I do? Thanks in advance for your help.

Alicia -- You should definitely call CVS customer care about this. The number is on the Web site. Have your receipt. They will be able to look up your transaction based on the numbers on the receipt and if you did everything correctly, they can issue the ECBs to your account.

Also keep in mind that CVS registers now have a button that instantly prints ECBs, so if you show the cashier the ad and your receipt(s), they also may help you. If they're helpful.

OK, thanks. I tried calling, but they were closed. So I will try again tomorrow after the holiday. At the time, the cashier and I both looked in the ad, but I'm in Southern California, and our ad didn't say anything about the promotion. I appreciate your help. Have a great Labor Day! I just found your blog recently, and you have already helped me save a ton of money! Thanks!
