Thome a Twin...and Who Cares Which Cap He Wears?

Much more than a sports guy, a big fan of tv, movies and music, (classic rock). TV play-by-play man for the Chicago Fire. Between Sports Phone and The Score, I have covered and talked sports for 32 years in this town.

Now he did it!  He went and signed with the Piranhas, or the sardines as Ozzie is calling them this season.

Jim Thome inked a one year, incentive laden contract with Minnesota, Tuesday, after the White Sox, rightfully, let the lefty slugger know there would not be enough at bats for him on the South Side. Now we have to hear all the debate as to whether Sox fans will boo him or cheer for him when the two teams meet.

Sorry!  He is now the enemy.  Cheer him in his first visit to U.S. Cellular Field.  Stand up and show your respect for the Peoria native.  After that, he is just another guy trying to beat YOUR team!

Guillen made the correct move.  He planned out this years squad not counting on the return of Thome, and why should he.  The Sox have planned on Kotsay swinging from the left side and Andruw Jones getting games at DH from the right.  Both of these players can do something that Thome can't do, and that is play the field.  Both Kotsay and Jones can be used as late inning defensive replacements.  Heck, if Jones is in shape, he could possibly be the best outfielder the team has.

Ozzie also plans on DHing Quentin and Knoerko, and maybe even Omar Vizquel, at times.  People have asked if DH by committee works.  Why the heck wouldn't it?  This will keep everyone on the team fresh for the anticipated, long, extended season, and hopefully, it becomes difficult for the skipper to make the call on a daily basis because all the guys are deserving of playing time.

I just hope that Kenny Williams talked to Guillen before he dropped the bomb on him Saturday at Soxfest that the Thome decision was the manager's. These two have to be on the same page.

Have you been to the Baseball Hall Of Fame in Cooperstown?  Did you spend a lot of time in the actual Hall with all of the players plaques?

When you were looking at the plaques, did you notice which cap the players were wearing?

Of course you didn't!  Why is everyone making such a big deal about Dawson going in as an Expo?  The Cubbie faithful have to get over it.  Dawson made his name in Montreal.  Sure, he won an MVP with a last place Cubs team, but it doesn't matter which cap the man is wearing on the plaque.  Is it going to make you forget all of the Hawk's great years at the Friendly Confines?  Let it go.  Worry about how the team is going to make up for not having Ted Lilly to start the season...or how Xavier Nady will get playing time in the outfield.

I miss Reed Johnson already.  You bust your butt, doing the best you can, and poof...you're gone!
