I can hear the outrage already. As soon as the game went to extra time, I knew that sports talk radio Monday would be filled with comments about the overtime system in the NFL.
There is NOTHING WRONG WITH IT!!!
The NFL is America's Game, and if anything changed that at all Sunday evening, it was the way the Saints and Vikings played the final three quarters of that game. Two teams who played so unlike the way they played during the season. Minnesota kept turning the ball over, and the Saints seemed to give up on their tremendous passing attack.
People say that the system is flawed. That allowing a team to win the coin toss, march down field and kick a field goal to win the game is not right. They say that both teams should have a possession in OT. I could not disagree more. The college rules are ridiculous. Going into Sunday's overtime, the team that won the coin toss had won just seven of the thirteen overtime games this season. It has worked for all this time...leave it alone!
NFL Overtime is FINE!!! Colts, Saints to Super Bowl 44, Let Thome Go
Brett Favre
Right where he found himself throughout the game
Minnesota gained 475 yards, but turned the ball over five times,
including a Brett Favre interception that cost the Vikings a field goal
attempt that could have won the game in regulation. All Favre had to do was run the ball down the right side of the field. He could have easily reached the thirty yard line allowing Ryan Longwell to attempt a makeable, forty-eight yard field goal. Instead, Favre threw across his body, trying to find Sidney Rice. The pass was intercepted and the game went to overtime.
How unbelievable was the play of Adrian Peterson? The Minnesota running back scored three rushing touchdowns, but he fumbled numerous times losing two of them. How can you trust a guy like this in the backfield?
New Orleans did just enough to get the win with Garrett Hartley booting the forty yard field goal to sent the Saints to South Florida.
When they get there, they will meet Peyton Manning and the Colts. No surprise that the two most dominant teams during the season will face each other in the Big Game on February 7.
After falling behind Mark Sanchez and the Jets by eleven points, the Colts battled back and their superstar QB picked apart the vaunted New York defense. Wide Receiver, Pierre Garcon was outstanding!
The early line has established the Colts as a 3 1/2 point favorite.
Before I go, I just wanted to tell White Sox fans to LET IT GO!!! There is no reason the South Siders should re-sign Jim Thome. We all know he is a great guy. One of the best guys to play the game and definitely one of the best to do it in Chicago. Thome is not a pinch hitter. He will not be the everyday DH. The Sox DO NOT NEED HIM!
Please, let him go!
