Madden More Than A Video Game

Much more than a sports guy, a big fan of tv, movies and music, (classic rock). TV play-by-play man for the Chicago Fire. Between Sports Phone and The Score, I have covered and talked sports for 32 years in this town.

He is not one of the big names on this Blackhawks team, but John Madden stood tall Sunday night at center ice after the Hawks 5-4 win over Nashville.

Madden scored twice as the Hawks came back from a 2-1 deficit after two periods to complete the weekend sweep over the Predators.  The third period was well worth the price of admission with six goals being scored.  The Hawks took a two goal lead, then lost that in a :57 second stretch, but Patrick Kane's second goal of the night was the eventual game winner.

The sweep of the home-and-home series allowed the Hawks to open up their lead over Nashville to eight points in the Central Division, twelve points ahead of Detroit.

It is soooo nice to see a Chicago squad go into an all important weekend, and come out the way the Hawks did.

After two periods, Troy Brouwer joined the guys on WGN radio.  During the interview, Troy Murray asked what the Hawks needed to do to gain the victory, and Brouwer said they needed to get to the net and have their best period of the year.  They did exactly that.

This team continues to impress.  Kane and Toews are consistently involved offensively while guys like Madden, and Brouwer, and now Brian Campbell, who has been on a little tear of his own, are stepping up.

The Hawks don't get much time to enjoy their weekend sweep.  They travel to Dallas tomorrow night to face the Stars before ringing in the New Year at the UC against New Jersey.

Here's to a great 2010!

Now I have to muster the strength to watch the Bears tonight.  Talk about one extreme to another.

Brett Favre and the Vikings come into Soldier Field after not playing well last week in a loss to Carolina.  Favre let it be known that Minnesota coach, Brad Childress wanted to take him out versus the Panthers when the game got out of hand and Favre wanted none of it.

Bears fans know that the old man isn't a big fan of the cold weather, so there may be hope for an upset by the lakefront...if you really care.

The only thing that most Bears fans want to hear from their beloved is a press conference being called to announce the firing of head coach, Lovie Smith.
