Bulls Win Again, Briggs a Pro Bowler

Much more than a sports guy, a big fan of tv, movies and music, (classic rock). TV play-by-play man for the Chicago Fire. Between Sports Phone and The Score, I have covered and talked sports for 32 years in this town.

This week, a lot of writers, broadcasters and bloggers are taking time off.  I have been off far too long, so I wanted to send out some of my thoughts after watching another Bulls win.

You don't get a lot of chances to say "another" Bulls Win.

Shots were falling Tuesday night, and that is what any team needs to get a victory.  The problem I saw with the win, and it's no secret, is this Bulls team lives and dies with the jump shot.

Hinrich and Deng came out, red hot.  Everything was falling, from 16 feet out and further.  Salmons, relegated to a bench player, was on target when he got his chance.
This Bulls squad does not drive to the hoop!  Sure, Derrick Rose goes to the hole, while Tyrus Thomas and Joachim Noah are usually inside the paint, but other than that, it seems like the Bulls fear the lane.

As long as their outside shot falls, they will stay in games.  Tuesday, Indiana came back from 19 points down to actually grab a short lead.  The Bulls cannot allow bad teams to do that.

I saw some great things from Vinny.  Everytime I saw things slipping away and jumped off the couch saying they needed a timeout, Vinny called one.  I always like guys that agree with me.

Rose, by the way, has decided to shoot the ball, and he did last night, leading the way with 28 points.

The NFL Pro Bowl announcements came out yesterday, and Lance Briggs was named a starter.  Briggs deserves it.  He plays his tail off and his tackle total has exceeeded 100 again this season.  Of course, it helps that the defense has been unable to stop anyone and the Bears D is on the field all the time.

Several media types that actually are working this week, have criticized the way Lovie Smith responded to questions about his future at his weekly press conference.  What do they expect Lovie to say?  He reacted the way most, if not all coaches do when asked about if they will have a job in a week, or if the win over the Vikes will help keep him in his current position.

Do reporters think they are asking the "tough" questions when they ask these, or are they the only ones willing to ask a question they know they won't get a decent answer to?

Have you watched ANY college bowl games?  If you have, it must have been an alma mater or you had money on it.  Since the day after Christmas, there have been games everyday...and I am not sure why.

Next week, all of the regular television series return with new episodes.  Why is it networks think that we can't follow these series during the holidays and kill us with reruns?  DVR's are one of the greatest inventions ever...but that is another blog!
