My quick take?
Hurray for the IHSA.
For years we have heard about the importance of sportsmanship from the state association, and up until now the only real visible attention towards this subject from the IHSA was using/marketing an orange sponge called "Attitude" along with a handful of public service commercials promoting sportsmanship.
This was a prime example of the IHSA literally taking control of an important situation and not backing off or going soft.
Lessons must be learned not just at North Chicago and at Simeon but across the state.
Do something as unsportsmanlike including fighting and pay a stiff penalty.
It's the way it should be, no if's and's or but's about it.
I haven't always agreed or seen eye to eye with the IHSA on several issues, but this time around I'm with the state association 100 percent.
Now....if we can just get rid of this silly geographics in the football state playoffs and seed 1-32, but I'll save that for another day.

Any statement as to why just N. Chicago's program was suspended, and not Simeon? I understand that the fight was "instigated" by a N. Chicago late hit, but the initial hit of the fight came in response, from a Simeon player. Of course, I wasn't there, and I haven't seen any video (not all fights are equal, of course), and certain individuals from Simeon have been suspended... but why one entire program in one case and simply individuals in the other?

I would think North Chicago coach Glen Kozlowski would have more control over his program. Being on radio at WGN and being a former Chicago Bear brings a higher profile to Mr. Kozlowski and the North Chicago football program. Teaching high school football players about sportsmanship and integrity should be priority #1. Mr. Kozlowski was the former head coach at Wauconda High School. From what I hear, he wore out his welcome there and decided to move on. He talks a great game when he is on the radio, but when it comes down to it, I think he is a poor choice for any coaching position.
