Mayor Richard M. Daley says safety problems are no big deal.
Reported the Sun-Times:
"We have a very safe airport," he said. "Anything is a violation. We take anything seriously. ... But it has not jeopardized the safety of any travelers. ... It's not dealing with the safety of people landing and taking off. ... They're not very significant, if you look at it."
Daley flatly denied that day-to-day operations at O'Hare and managing the massive runway expansion project were too much for Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino.
This guy never ceases to amaze with his presumption about how stupid we all are.

Here's a story that scares the hell out of me, as reported by the Tribune's transportation writher
Federal inspectors found numerous violations at O'Hare International Airport that endanger airplanes at the most critical phases of flight -- takeoffs and landings, officials said Wednesday.
The safety breaches, uncovered by the Federal Aviation Administration during routine inspections last month at O'Hare, range from debris on runways to excessive amounts of tall grass and weeds that create hazards for planes by attracting birds and other wildlifeFalse statements? Lying, in other words. Of course, what else can you expect from the Daley Administration, which has consistently lied about the costs, benefits and dangers of O'Hare expansion? What's the connection between airport operations and airport expansion? Here's one: Chicago Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino had been in charge of the expansion project, and Mayor Richard M. Daley had such confidence in her abilities(?) that he put her in charge of the entire airport, including its operations, carrying over her policies and practices from the messed-up, delayed and underfund expansion project.
A warning notice from the FAA to Chicago said the inspections show that O'Hare is seriously out of compliance with federal aviation law. The notice, called a "letter of correction," also chastised the Chicago Department of Aviation for what the federal agency called a pattern of false statements in its self-inspection program.
