A Baseball Discussion with Bill James

user-pic
Tonight on Sports Central on WGN Radio I spoke with Baseball Statistician Bill James, a.k.a. the guru of Sabermetrics.  We went through a number of different topics including his thoughts on the value of Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano, and the less traditional statistics used by James and his staff when evaluating talent for the Boston Red Sox.  Check this out below.  Many of you stat guys will be interested by James' philosophy on desirable players.

Fascinating interview, I could listen to this stuff for the entire two-hour show. Do the Cubs have someone like this on the staff and if not, why? This kind of analysis is crucial and I often doubt if Hendry and Piniella really get it. I have not heard them acknowledge that the main reason for the decreased run production is because our OBP dropped back to the historically pathetic levels of Cubs teams.

Now if you take this new found information into you're analysis, I'll be impressed.

Just a question, why are you such a doosh all the time. If your desire is to be a constant know it all punk, the Cub message board would be a great place for you to hang out. Silly me I bet you're already a regular poster over there

Sorry, I don't go to the Cubs' messageboards.

Is that seriously how you think "douche" is spelled?

Also, in response to "Cubs W" the Cubs did hire Chuck Wasserstrom to fill some sort of statistical analysis role, which is about as progressive as hiring Tammy Duckworth as a dance instructor.
