Cubs prospect Jeff Samardzija threw four innings on Thursday in his second start since returning to Iowa, and for the second straight start didn't give up a walk.
Samardzija, who went three innings in his first start back, did give up a two-run homer to Rockies
prospect Carlos Gonzalez but he struck out three while on a 70-pitch pitch count. He threw 45 of the 67
pitches for strikes.
You would like to see him reach the fifth or six inning, but the Cubs
have no problem taking their time with him as there is no need for
Samardzija in their starting rotation right now.
The series was a good one for the Iowa Cubs, who totaled 66 hits and 50 runs in the three-game series. In Thursday's victory over Colorado Springs, Jason Dubois and Brad Snyder homered twice and Jake Fox hit his 15th dinger of the season.
