Whisler debuts, Beckham to follow

White Sox pitching prospect Wes Whisler made his big league debut against Oakland, pitching one inning and striking out two. Whisler, 26, was 5-3 with a 2.81 ERA in 10 games for the Charlotte Knights. Whisler may have success in the majors, but he needs to be more consistent in getting lefties out. He has 1.39 WHIP and lefties are hitting .310 against him. It is hard to say he has been lucky for ten starts, but he certainly is not mowing down hitters in Triple-A. Expect the White Sox to use him sparingly.

In other news, the White Sox will call up top prospect Gordon Beckham. They just couldn't wait. Beckham is hitting .464 in 7 games with 6 extra-base hits for the Charlotte Knights. When a young player is on a roll, especially a young, talented player like Beckham, you want to see if he can continue to produce at the next level. However, he is in his first full season in the majors and could use seasoning so he knows how to adjust throughout a full length season.
