Slow zone work slows Blue Line, Red Line trains; bus stops removed, relocated

It's baaaack! Taste of Chicago is done, so Blue Line service once again is suspended this weekend. But this weekend, the CTA is closing another Loop station -- Clark/Lake.

From 10 p.m. Friday, July 10, until 4 a.m. Monday, July 13, service in the subway between the Western/Milwaukee and Washington stations will be temporarily suspended. Bus shuttles will serve the shuttered stops.

On the Red Line, trains at the Sheridan station will use the outer Purple Line Express tracks  from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, July 14 through Friday, July 17, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes. The CTA is stepping up this work on the stretch of slow zone track between Sheridan and Wilson.

Also next week, a late night single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains operating between the Roosevelt and Cermak-Chinatown stations from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning starting Sunday night, July 12, through Wednesday night, July 15.

Bus service changes. Meanwhile, the CTA continues to tinker with removing and relocating bus stops on nine routes. They include the #1, #3, #43, #47, #50, #66, #74, 81, and #156. Details here.

Looks like a lot of routes are getting moved from nearside to farside stops at multiple intersections with a a couple stops being eliminated on certain routes.

Hopefully they get that Sheridan work done soon. Seems like they have been working a long time on that with not much to show for it. If they are truly "stepping it up" as Kevin says, this should help. Though admittedly, doing it on a weekend while the Cubs are in town might not be the best idea, it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

I signed up for Bus Tracker service alerts to be e-mailed to me for my very favorite bus routes. This little puzzler landed in the in-box this morning:

The following service alert(s) are being sent in accordance with your instructions.

Affected service: 11 - Lincoln/Sedgwick

Priority: Low
Subject: West Fest

Buses in both directions will operate via Chicago, Damen, Augusta, Ashland, and Chicago.

I think they meant to mention reroutes on Lincoln between Montrose and the Western Brown Line station due to the Old Town School Folk and Roots Festival and this one probably applies to the #9. Apparently the priority for correctness and/or proofreading is also low. Maybe the CTA employee who wrote the alert was told there would be no math.

Maybe the rerouting of the 11 bus has to do with Rock Around the Block at Lincoln/Belmont:

This one pertains to Rock Around the Block. The one I mentioned above remains a mystery.

#11 Lincoln Temporary Reroute

Jul 11 - 12
2am Sat to 11:59pm Sun or completion

How does this affect my trip?
Buses in both directions will operate via Lincoln, Addison, Ashland and Lincoln.

Allow extra travel time.

Why is service being changed?
Buses are rerouted due to the Rock Around the Block Festival.

Could the new(er) articulated buses be used on the Blue Line 'L' shuttles? Or is it too difficult to manuever them to the specific spots where they pick up and discharge passengers?
It would seem to me that the CTA could use fewer buses, and not have to pull them from as many garages, for this.
