I just cannot stand this. Why did Tony La Russa feel the need to bring a completely tainted Mark McGwire back into the fold?

And make no mistake this is Tony's call. The St. Louis Cardinals are just along for the ride. La Russa, a full blown stand up guy, is the Redbirds. If he wanted Osama bin Laden to instruct his hitters the club would support him 125 percent.

"I'm not hear to talk about the past. I'm here to be positive about this subject."
A gutless Mark McGwire testifying before that House Government reform committee investigating "juice-use" back in 2005.

McGwire didn't have to admit steroid use. His run-and-hide tone of
voice told us all we needed to know about a man whose home runs to
at-bats ratio is the best in MLB history so help me Babe Ruth.

La Russa needs to examine La Russa on this move. Tony's respect and
passion for the "game" have always been at the highest level. So, now
he hires a circus freak that he knows will create a pen and mike club
frenzy every time his "batting coach" visits a new ballpark.

Forget about a very casual Chicago media. God, I would just kill to be
in New York the first time the Cards play the Mets. The New York Post
will arrive in droves with fangs, switchblades - handcuffs, optional.

Meanwhile, back in St. Louis, the ballclub is already in a "protective"
mode about the McGwire hiring. in case you missed it McGwire did not
attend his introductory press conference. A little more? His first
session with the media will be by conference call.

This has sideshow, this has Ringling Brothers, this has pathetic written all over it.

Mr. La Russa, future Hall of Famer, just what the hell are you thinking? Tony, have you been partying wiith Jose canseco?

I'm with you Chet. Tony made a bad mistake with that gutless, shoot me up,loser. Hal Mcrae's team batted .263 with the leading Dodgers batting .270. St. Louis should be embarrassed. How could a ball club allow this? Whatever Mr. Gutless gets, he deserves. What's next,Sosa as bench coach? If St. Louis falters at the end of next year, at least gutless can provide the vitamins. I hate to say this Chet, but I believe Tony must be nipping again.

I'm with you on this Chet but please.."La Russa, a full blown stand up guy." Thos guy has looked the other way for years on his bloated, steriod induced teams...McGwire with the Cards and especially the Bash brothers in Oakland those were on his watch. What kind of a stand up guy is that. And another thing baseball has always whispered about Tony L. and the great Dave Duncan teaching the scuff ball, spit ball, and sign stealing. So much for a "stand up guy."
