Welcome Back, Mr. Buscemi

Buscemi's hat is no joke.

Robert Buscemi's worldview will knock your socks clean off.  Often surrealistic and extremely dry, his style of jokeage made him one of Chicago's premier alternative comics until his departure for LA tore us apart with sadness.  Standup's king of slick, Buscemi returns to the windy city tonight to record his third album at the Lincoln Lodge (yep, the same spot I recorded mine last week...and his will be put out of Rooftop Comedy's label, too).  Chilarious contributor Adam Burke caught up with Robert in preparation for hosting tonight's show.

1. This is your first album recording, but you've already recorded two DVD's. You think people will miss out on the full audiovisual Buscemi experience?
I've actually had to adapt a few jokes to the audio format. Like at one point I'm bobbing my head up and down in a story, and I now have to say "I bob my head up and down" so listeners can visualize it. But it's an interesting challenge. I pack words up densely as hell, so I'm kind of happy in a way to not have my beauty distract from my poetry on the CD.

2. Lincoln Lodge was one of your "home" clubs here in Chicago. Does recording there have a special meaning for you?
Oh absolutely it does. The Lodge is made for me--goofy and retro, but very dippy and Vaudeville. I love the Lodge. I kind of made my name and defined my character there, and I just love how cheerful it is, and the little butterflies of pleasure I get behind their curtain before I shake the host's hand and take the stage. The whole atmosphere lends itself to slaphappy surrealism, which is what I peddle.

3. You are known for your prodigious vernacular. Can you give me one four-syllable and one one-syllable word describing your feelings about the recording tonight?
    Absofruitly not!

Don't miss Robert's performance at 8 PM tonight at the Lincoln Lodge.  Tickets available at www.thelincolnlodge.com.
