Son of Chitown Daily News to Debut in November

When the Chicago blogosphere's star local news site, Chitown Daily News, suddenly folded in early September due to dwindling finances, editor Geoff Dougherty promised to return "within eight weeks" with a new, more sustainable local news site. True to his word, this week in Crain's Chicago Business, Dougherty announced the upcoming debut of Chicago Current...a monthly print publication with a companion website. Huh?

Virtual Concentration Camp for Illinois Sex Offenders?

Today, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a law making it illegal for sex offenders to use social networking sites. Is this a necessary ban to protect the state's children? Or a misguided move guaranteed to keep criminals who've paid their debt living on the margins of society?

annatarkovA blogger with time on her hands is a dangerous thing, especially when that blogger is political wonk Anna Tarkov. Her Daily Daley column has determinedly dogged Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley's every move in the virtual pages of The Windy Citizen since October 2008. Given da mare's comically tortured turns-of-phrase and teeny degrees of separation from scandal, Tarkov's reason for shadowing his activities is surprising: before Daily Daley, no other blogger was doing it.
