Market Days is back and wow is it packed with great entertainment this very weekend.It's the second pride celebration that happens each year in Chicago featuring queer artist and the many artist we love!! There will be plenty of eye candy, great music, venders with deep discounts, yummy food and JOAN JET, JOAN JET, JOAN JET! Yeah, I'm pretty excited to see her perform. Lady Starlight (born Colleen Martin, December 23rd, 1975) is an American rock'n roll DJ, go-go dancer, fashion stylist, writer and performance artist based in New York City's Lower East Side. She is best known for being Lady Gaga's original performance partner and DJ. In 2008, Lady Starlight was voted "Best Female Hard Rock DJ 2008" by The L Magazine.

In early 2007, Lady Starlight began collaborating with the similarly named and as yet undiscovered pop star Lady Gaga, and helped create her onstage fashions. The pair began playing gigs at downtown club venues like Mercury Lounge, The Bitter End, and Rockwood Music Hall, with their live performance art piece, "Lady Gaga and The Starlight Revue." Billed as "The Ultimate Pop Burlesque RockShow", their act was a low-fi tribute to 1970's variety acts which featured Lady Gaga on synth, Lady Starlight spinning beats, choreographed go-go moves, shiny disco balls, and hairspray, lit on fire and sprayed into the audience.

In August 2007, Lady Gaga and The Starlight Revue were invited to play Lollapalooza, where the Ladies shocked audiences with their wild performance. The show was critically acclaimed and their performance received rave reviews. In October 2007, Lady Starlight and Lady GaGa combined their love of performance art, burlesque pop, rock'n roll, sequined panties, 1970's Glam Rock and 1980's Heavy Metal into a weekly party, "New York Street Revival and Trash Dance".

Lady Starlight also recently worked with Lady Gaga as artistic director on Gaga's series of short Andy Warhol-esque films, "Who Shot Candy Warhol" and "The Brain", used during Gaga's performances on Pussycat Dolls Doll Domination Tour and her own The Fame Ball Tour.
Lady Starlight is currently a support act on Lady Gaga's North American leg of the Monster Ball Tour along with Semi Precious Weapons. Starlight opens up the show with a one-hour DJ set before Semi Precious Weapons and Gaga do their sets.

Bikini Kill is a band and this is our little thing to give out at shows, etc... AND THEN THERE'S THE REVOLUTION.

Bikini Kill is more than just a band or a zine or an idea, it's a part of the revolution. The revolution is about going to the playground with your best girlfriends. You are hanging upside down on the bars and all the blood is rushing to your head, it's an euphoric feeling. The boys can see our underwear and we don't care.

I'm so sure that lots of girls are also in revolution and we want to find them. So who watched Season 1 Episode 2 of The Real L Word??? ( the new lesbian reality tv show ) Well I was still out roaming the streets aimlessly, attending the Chicago Pride Parade and all the after parties. By 9m Sunday, I was completely exhausted!! My bed was calling my name. As well as some crab rangoon. Yum.

Needlessly to say, I had some catching up to do!

This last episode was even better than the first!
Some have more drama than others as we get a wider scope into careers and love lives.

Wow.......

My jaw just dropped.

I couldn't help but go "ohhhhhhhh" at the end and so did everyone else at T's Restaurant and Bar this past Sunday night with HRC screening the very first episode of this landmark lesbian reality series The Real L Word.

Last night T's was packed with hopeful and bitter women circled around beers chatting with buddies and new friends alike. I too ran into a few familiar faces and circled around my own friends to watch reactions and to gossip afterward. Reality shows are really good for this one thing. If you weren't talking about an issue before....you will now. I can remember watching The L Word with my ex-girlfriend and trying to avoid the similarities from screen paralleling my life and relationships but I couldn't beat it in the end! Even outside of relationships, they are really good in getting a community of people thinking. Thoughts help to create change. Like what exactly do you want to see in shows that are meant to represent the lesbian and queer women's community? Yeah, good job getting that moving Showtime.

The first episode of The Real L Word, the new ground breaking lesbian reality series, launches Sunday, June 20th at 9pm. Excited??!!?? I most certainly am. Over this past weekend Ilene Chaiken introduced three of these sexy ladies at LA Pride. We've seen so much of the ladies already that I can't wait for the series to finally begin!

Music Mania Monday is back!

Bitch recently came out with a new video for "Kitchen"! She's a fantastic artist of her own style, a poetic wonder, fabulous feminist, and multi-talented genius.I first saw her perform at Scubas a few years back and the concert was so good! Bitch's musical journey has taken her from classical-violin training in the suburbs to experimental flicks in NYC. After leaving the outskirts of Detroit for the artier charms of Chicago--Bitch's unconventional and outspoken approach to performance caught the attention of a number of indie luminaries. She took fiddling lessons with Andrew Bird, serendipitously stumbled upon future co-conspirator, Animal at acting school, moved to New York to make their own 'theater' (Bitch and Animal) and recorded and toured with Ani DiFranco (who released Bitch and Animal's records on Righteous Babe). This association yielded an international following, introducing the world to Bitch's left-of-center and controversial brand of performance.

Recently I went down the wonderful journey of getting tested.....and trying to find place I could afford! This was no easy feat considering most places start their sliding scale rates at $30 and being unemployed doesn't make this small fee easy.

So, via a quick google search I stumbled upon Lakeview Specialty Clinic. This place is amazing! It's free, run by the state, with the benefit that you can come in five days a week for anonymous STD/HIV testing and check-ups including early evenings. Like anyone, I was nervous before going in as all the fearful pictures played out in my mind. It can get tense when dealing with life threatening issues! Let me say, at LSC I didn't feel tense, frightened, nervous or like I was going to go running out the doors panicked. They have the best system I have ever seen period.

Vespertine Women Only Play Party!

To start with Vespertine will be holding one of their infamous play parties for women! This wonderfully kinky party is a rare occurrence for women in Chicago, thought there are plenty of play parties that are open to everyone, but as far as I know this is the only one exclusively created to celebrate and give space to women only. *Thank you Sky and crew!

This party is fantastic. I've gone before and let me tell you there is plenty to enjoy. This tattooed vixen, Mikey, produces LA fashion week. LA Fashion week!!! Are you kidding me?! Talk about a power lesbian! And she seems quite the funny one too! She's also apart of The Real L Word, a reality series about lesbians, on the west coast, in sunny CA. Maybe she'll do a tour when the shows all done across the country. Come out with a lesbian fashion line???? We so could use one considering details that the typically gendered fashion styles just doesn't anticipate.
