Advocate Health Care CEO on the attack

An inconspicuous hospital executive is building a local health care empire -- and creating a national model for hospital operators.

Already presiding over the state's largest medical provider, Advocate Health Care CEO Jim Skogsbergh is planting stakes outside the Chicago market for the first time, adding a large Downstate hospital and kicking the tires on others. 

He's also won a horse race to acquire Lake County's biggest hospital, Condell Medical Center, and snapped up large medical practices to expand Advocate's sprawling 3,400-physician network.
