The Hamilton Bulldogs returned to Rockford last night and blew the IceHogs out of their barn, 5-0. There is a reason why the Bulldogs are one of the top rated teams in the American Hockey League, they're good, really good. Yes, there were a few penalties committed by Hamilton players that went uncalled by Referee Jeff Smith, but that can happen in any game with any team. Would it have changed the end result of the game? No.
From the drop of that fateful first puck until the final buzzer, the Bulldogs played a full 60 minutes of hockey. That's not to say that the IceHogs didn't, as they did hustle and put forth a good effort, unfortunately it wasn't anywhere near enough. The Bulldogs seemed to swarm the ice, they were able to be everywhere at every time. How five men could cover the ice that well was just amazing. They intercepted pass after and pass from the IceHogs and poke checked the puck away time and time again. They made it all appear effortless on their part. Line changes were completed quickly and when the oncoming line hit the ice, they hit it on the run, hungry to play.
Rockford's Corey Crawford was not having a good night and was chased from the net early in the thirrd frame after being lit up four times by the Bulldogs. Joe Fallon replaced Crawford and was able to stop nine out of ten shots on goal the remainder of the game. Hamilton's Curtis Sanford had a stellar night, getting the shut out, stopping all 25 shots Rockford fired him. For his efforts he received the number one Star of the Game and AHL's number two Star of the Night.
