The league domination (think happy thoughts kiddies) starts Sunday, April 11th against Sky Blue FC in New Jersey. This is going to be a ramped-up launch to the new season so catch the game on Fox Soccer Channel. I vote calling your local watering hole to see if they are carrying the game...Small Bar, The Globe, your crazy neighbor Pavel with cable.
The home opener is the following weekend, Saturday, April 17 vs. Saint Louis Athletica @ 7 p.m. Could be a chilly one but that's what tailgating and some pre-game footie are for. Check out Local 134 for fan activities.
Wow, draft day is finally here, only two short days away. To be completely honest with you, I'm not sure what to expect or think, as I am not all that familiar with many collegiate players.
I know that Red Stars Confidential contributor, Pott Rocks, is crossing her fingers that Casey Nogueira will find her way onto Chicago's roster. While I appreciate the enthusiasm she has for Nogueira, I'm still hoping that Emma Hayes will look at players with strong, defensive background rather than focusing on attacking minded players like Karen Carney, Megan Rapinoe, and Kosovare Asllani. It's not that I'm not a fan of these creative, quick, skillful players- It's just that right now I have more of a concern for how the creative, quick, skillful opponents of the Red Stars will be slowed down before they go face to face with Caroline Jonsson in net.
I guess it's only a matter of time before I find out...
Caroline Jonsson rescues the Red Stars after Camille Abily of the Los Angeles Sol breaks through the Red Stars defense.
With that said, who do you think the Red Stars will draft? And which player(s) would you want to see the Red Stars draft?
(Keep reading! Links to several other draft blogs and articles are awaiting you.)
I'm sure many of you have already heard about New Mexico's Elizabeth Lambert, but in the event that you haven't this video is certainly worth watching. A shirt tug here and there is to be expected in a competitive game of soccer, but what happens when it comes down to ponytail tugs and back punches? I suddenly recall the voices of soccer parents nationwide as they would annoyingly shout, "referee, where are your glasses!?"

Recently I found out that Chicago Indoor Sports would be managing their first ever women's indoor soccer league. I was beyond excited to discover this since women's soccer leagues in Chicago are few and far between. As a 29-year-old woman soccer player, I speak from experience.
When I graduated from college I "retired" from my soccer career, but thankfully, due to good friends I was persuaded to join a coed team in 2006. The thought of playing competitive soccer with the opposite sex had never appealed to me. Most men, no matter how untalented they are at the sport, are still larger, stronger, and quicker than most women players. I had never been a very strong or physical player, so of course this was an unattractive option. However, it was the only option I had, and I was itching to start playing again.
Later that year, Armitage FA succeeded in developing a women's league with the assistance of an active member of the league, Heidi Morazes. It was a fairly competitive league, but players were turned off after three sessions (spring, summer & fall) of playing against the same four teams on Monday nights at either 9 or 10PM. But overall, Armitage FA owners were pleasant to work with and their efforts in getting a competitive women's league off the ground was appreciated by many.
A year or two later Sports Monster temporarily listed a women's indoor league on their website that I happened to find while looking for coed leagues to play in. I never received any promotional e-mails to boost enrollment... which begs the question: How exactly does an organization expect a league to get off the ground when they don't even actively recruit teams?
