Mike Tyson To Appear on Oprah Winfrey Show

When I first read the press release announcing Mike Tyson's upcoming appearance on next Monday's edition of The Oprah Winfrey Show, I was perplexed.

Mike Tyson?  Really?

He's not an A-list celebrity.  There's no newsworthy controversy surrounding him right now.

And then I remembered.  Less than five months ago, Tyson's 4-year-old daughter died after a strange accident involving a treadmill machine.
To my knowledge, this is the first time Tyson will be speaking out about his daughter's death.  He did return to the spotlight briefly in June when he remarried but has effectively been "in hiding" ever since.

And now it makes sense.  Oprah has a way of always getting the "first interview," especially when it follows a tragedy like this.

Interestingly enough, that's not the hook used in the press release.  The first paragraph reads, in part:

No topic is off-limits and Oprah asks "Iron Mike" about it all - his tumultuous marriage and divorce from Robin Givens, his trial and three-year incarceration, his controversial
bout with Evander Holyfield, this year's documentary "Tyson" and much
more.
It isn't until the third paragraph that the "tragic accident" is mentioned, almost as an after-thought.

Tyson also discusses the tragic accident that took the life of his daughter Exodus in May this year.

I'm curious to see if the show will model the press release.  Will the focus really be about things that happened 10, 20 years ago?  Or will his daughter's death be front and center?

I guess I'll have to tune in Monday, October 12, to find out.
