You want Obama to win the presidency? Sure thing. Close down Michigan
Avenue? Not a problem. The Olympics in Chicago? Hold up a second.
After traveling to Copenhagen to plead Chicago's case before the International Olympic Committee, Queen O must be mighty shocked the city was eliminated this morning in the first round of voting. For the first time in recent memory, what Oprah wants isn't what Oprah gets.
Chicago 2016 Olympics: What Oprah Wants...
With Michelle Obama by her side, Oprah worked the crowds in Copenhagen, snapping pictures and giving autographs both to IOC members and fans. The logic behind the trip was to use Oprah's worldwide celebrity to draw attention to what the city has to offer. But the logic failed. Miserably.
During OprahDay last month, I asked who is better known around the world: Oprah or Barack Obama. Tweeters said it was a draw, as Obama's global career is just starting out. But neither were enough to sway IOC voters. Perhaps Oprah (and Obama) isn't the global force everyone thinks.
Even though Oprah's ratings continue to rise, her influence might be on the decline and the world is surely taking notice.

For the majority world, who is Oprah? With her wealth she should finance the Games by herself or for that matter, those who wish to undertake the bid process madness, pay for it out of your own pocket without any public guarantees to the IOC.
Imagine a great city having to get down on its knees with cap in hand, sending its President and his wife, to bow to a bunch of self appointed aristocrats, and beg for one of the most disturbing public cons in the history of the modern world, the Olympic Games.
If you haven't already, read Chris Shaw's Five Ring Circus and see what you really missed bringing to your city.
No, the Travelling Country Club, the Family, the privileged, will not arrive at your doorstep oblivious to the years of strive, corruption, diversion of public funds and outright deceit.
You will not have to shut your city down for two and half weeks while they come to play in your backyard.
You've gotten past the carnival midway atmosphere with its Games of chance, you've beaten the odds, be grateful and get on with life.
Enjoy the peace and quiet. The sun will rise. It's a new day. Thank your lucky stars.
From a Host City resident in Vancouver, all the best Chicago!
