Breaking news, Chicago! This week on ChicagoNow Radio on WGN with Amy Guth and Alex Quigley from 9 a.m. to noon, we have all of these awesome guests:

developerbanner.jpg

9 a.m.
Lyletta the "Woodlawn Wonder" is full of sass and haaaates her developer. That's why she writes I Hate My Developer. She'll kick off Saturday's show and tell us why. Give us a shout if you hate your developer, too. We'll take your calls at (312) 591-7200.

Thumbnail image for americanprincess276.jpg

9:30 a.m.
Emily Zanotti of American Princess was in the WGN studios on election night and is going to tell us about all the shenanigans that go on behind the scenes during election coverage, and we'll talk about shenanigans we saw at the polls. (Ahem, my polling place, I'm looking your direction.) Call us with your own election day horror stories. Follow @emzanotti on Twitter.

roses.jpg

10 a.m.
That Jennifer Fernicola Ronay of Stop and Blog the Roses is always looking on the bright side. And not in that annoying way, either. In the funny way. The best way, if you ask me. She'll join us to talk about all the terrible crap in the world that we can reframe and laugh at. So take that, terrible crap! Take that! Find her on Twitter as @fernronay.

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for lenoxbanner276.jpg

10:30 a.m.
Lenox Magee of Lenox and the Second City is a funny man. He's also on a crusade to make it into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame. If being smart, funny and bold on the radio while tackling some major-league, serious issues can help qualify him, we are glad to do our part. (He better invite us to the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, is all I'm saying. I can't speak for Quigley, but, man oh man, I always like a reason to don evening wear.) Find Lenox as @LenoxMagee on Twitter.

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for dailychgosportstab276.jpg

11 a.m.
Tab Bamford of Daily Chicago Sports Tab is a funny guy. He also knows a whole helluva lot about sports. Way more than I know, admittedly (despite the considerable wit, charm and wealth of sports knowledge I bring to RedEye's Friday morning 5-on-5 item I do each weel with Quigley and the RedEye Sports crew), and so he will join us to talk about all of it: the Bears, the Blackhawks, the Bulls, and that awesome underwater hockey league I'm trying to get going around here. Catch up with him as @The1Tab on twitter.

11:30 a.m.
We close out the show this week talking about a couple of other hats Alex Quigley and I will be wearing this week, the upcoming ChicagoNow tweet-up on Tuesday, November 9, and the announcement of a cool, new bonus feature of the show. Boom. Oh, and I will tell the worst joke I've ever heard in my life. If that doesn't entice, I don't know what will!

Alex Quigley

Former rock DJ, currently a multipurpose Chicago media guy.

It's going to be the spooooooookiest episode of CNR ever. EVAAARRRRRRR!!!

bronxhouse.jpg

Wow, Amy & Alex really go all out with their costumes and makeup.

It's a short show due to a Northwestern Wildcats football game, so we promise to talk twice as fast.

thatsawesome276.jpg

9:00: Barb Rodriguez received her Masters' and Ph. D. in Awesome Studies at the Hasselhoff School of Awesome Studies in The Hague, Netherlands. Or perhaps it was Kankakee Community College. She'll talk about her trip inside a real-life haunted house - Joliet's Scutt House - and the top canine costumes for Halloween 2010.

downers276.jpg

9:30: Lynn Hudoba is raising her 6-year-old autistic daughter in Downers Grove. Her blog documents the highs and lows of being a special-needs mother, with plenty of humor thrown in along the way.

feastoffun.jpg

10:00: The Feast of Fun guys live up to their name in every way. Fausto and Mark serve up their thoughts on all things pop-culture with a gay Chicago twist. (They've also got the #1 most-listened-to gay podcast on iTunes. Number one in the world.) They'll finish out the show with one mission at mind: making your Halloween more fun this year.

This week on ChicagoNow Radio with Amy Guth and Alex Quigley we have a short show so we can make way for the Northwestern Wildcats coverage. Find us on from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at WGN 720 or online at WGNRadio.com. As for our guests:

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for artadvicebanner.jpg

9 a.m.
Rachel Wolfe of The Art of Advice joins us at the top of the show to explain why on earth you would want to get into a sensory-deprivation chamber thingy. (I will take a lot of convincing, personally. Quigley, on the other hand, thinks it would be awesome.)

girlbox.jpg

9:30 a.m.
Lauren Kaminsky of Outside the Girl Box will be up next to talk about a weeklong observance I've never heard of before, but one that sounds interesting: Fat Talk Free Week. She'll explain the tongue-twister and why is matters.

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for cubs.jpg

10 a.m.
Julie DiCaro of A League Of Her Own will close out the show with us. She'll be talking about Quade, and whether or not we should be concerned his name rhymes with "potty," "shoddy" and, um, "hide a body." (Callin' it like I see it folks. Callin' it like I see it.)

Three full hours of ChicagoNow Radio await your ears this Saturday morning on News 720 WGN. Remember, for every half-hour segment you tune in, you save a far-off planet from being destroyed.

Space_Planet_Explosion_010521_.jpg

What happened when you missed a segment last weekend.

marklymini.jpg

9:00: Newly-published author and general raconteur Stephen Markley is back in our fair city after an extended absence due to his whirlwind book tour. He'll talk about how he's found a new appreciation for Chicago, the uber-hype surrounding The Social Network, and how he's coming to grips with his love for Ben Affleck.

firelovie276.jpg

9:30: The Bears just keep on winning, and Mike Burzawa's gotta be feeling torn about their 4-1 start. Are the Bears actually any good? Will they make the postseason in a weaker-than-expected NFC North? Mike spills his insight...and hopefully nothing else. The equipment in the Showcase Studio doesn't react well to liquids.

paceofchicagomini.jpg

10:00: So the Chicago Marathon's done and gone and the weather outside is turning just a little bit colder. Time to hunker down, curl up on the couch, and eat for five straight months? Heck, no! David Wallach talks about the post-Marathon hangover and how to stay active throughout the cold Chicago fall and winter.

paranormal_logo.jpg

10:30: Therese Rowley, Ph. D. knows her stuff when it comes to the paranormal. She'll be here to answer any questions you may be to embarrassed to ask someone else face-to-face, plus she'll talk about handling your kids if they think they can communicate with spirits. It's never to early to get in the Halloween spirit at ChicagoNow Radio.

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Chicago_now_radio2.jpg

11:00: Our special guest Brent Payne is an SEO expert. I told him I dig "Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore" and "Take It On the Run"...then he looked at me sideways. Brent's here to talk about the secret ways to improve your stature online, particularly with Google searches. He'll also tell you how to bury the embarrassing pics from your drunken birthday night that leaked onto the Internet.

chicagopolitical.jpg

11:30: It's election season. Listen to WGN for one commercial break and you'll hear at least one ominous political advertisment. Michael Ciric is one of our ace politicos who's been watching all of the relevant races to Chicagoans...and their ubiquitous radio and TV ads, too. Talkin' politics for the final half-hour on the big CNR.

Holy moley! It's Chicago marathon weekend already! We've read their blogs, we've checked in with them on the radio, we've followed their trials and tribulations and now it's time to talk with Dan Malinski of Cubicle Dad and Connie Reyes of Marathon MissFit one last time before they can forever call themselves marathoners. (*sniffle* I promise not to cry because crying is for stupid babies and I'm not a stupid baby and shutupshutupshutup.....! *sniffle*) Ahem. It's gonna be badass. Follow @CubicleDad and @MarathonMissFit on Twitter.

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Chicago_now_radio2.jpg

minime.jpg

Nice timely pop-culture reference there, Quigs.

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for americanprincess276.jpg

9:00am: Hey, didja hear that Da Mayor is retiring? It's been the talk of the town all week long, and we'll have Emily Zanotti on to kick off the show with some not-too-serious conversation about what's next for the Mayor's Office. We'll want to know who you want--or don't want--to hold the office, too.

candidcandace.jpg

9:30am: Candace Jordan is our embedded journalist in the secret world of Chicago's elite social scene. Her photoblogs open a window into the life behind the velvet rope...and when she's on our show, she tells the stories that the pics can't! What happened to the rumored Real Housewives of Chicago series? And what is the Miss Continental Pageant? She'll fill you in.

Thumbnail image for dailychgosportstab276.jpg

10:00am: Say it with us: Daaaaaa Bearssssss! Although this preseason may have had you crying in your beer and Polish saaahh-sage, Tab Bamford has come up with a plan that could potentially save this Bears season. And if we've got time, we'll take your predictions for Sunday's kickoff against the Lions. Follow the show on Twitter (@ChicagoNowRadio) and follow Alex (@alexquigley) and Amy (@amyguth), too. Alex Quigley

Former rock DJ, currently a multipurpose Chicago media guy.

Start your Labor Day weekend with Alex and Amy at 9am Saturday morning on News 720 WGN. Tune in the old-school way on your radio or stream the show here. Join the conversation at (312) 591-7200. The guest lineup for this weekend's slightly-shortened show:

top_ten_small_logo.gif

9am: Matt Olsen kicks off the show with Chicago sports talk which may or may not be in list-of-ten form. Can't imagine any Bears talk will be uplifting. Or Cubs talk. Or White Sox talk. Um...when does hockey start? He'll also give good reasons why your significant other should join your fantasy football league.

webbanner_ProfFraud%20Final-276.jpg

9:30am: Fraud's a bad thing. (We at ChicagoNow Radio also think puppies are great.) Professor William Kresse remains vigilant against all kinds of fraud in the Chicagoland area, from garden-variety personal scams to government-level corruption. He'll try to help you protect yourself...and probably tell you some things that'll make you mad.

accsexy.jpg

10:00am: Ana Fernatt just went through a break-up. And instead of holing up in her apartment with her Snuggie and a bucket of Ben & Jerry's, she's coming onto our airwaves to talk about getting over it. If you've recently gone through it--or are contemplating a break-up of your own--it'll be a solid half-hour to spend with us.

gowherehiphop.jpg

10:30am: The guys from Gowhere Hip Hop will fill us in on what's what and who's who on the Chicago hip-hop scene.

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Chicago_now_radio2.jpg

11:00am: We cap the show with a preview of the next couple Weekly Wagers...Alex will be sprinting up 22 flights of stairs at the Tribune Tower (due to Jay Cutler's proclivity towards interceptions) and both Alex and Amy have a date with goalposts at Northwestern University. Videos will be on the show's Facebook page shortly after completion!

This week's line-up on ChicagoNow Radio on WGN with Alex Quigley and Amy Guth from 9 a.m. to noon:

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for chicagofoodsnob276.jpg

9 a.m.
Our friend Joe Campagna kicks off the show with his scandalous take on farmer's markets here in Chicagoland. You may feel the need to throw produce at your radio, but Joe knows his food stuff.

alteregomaniac188.jpg

9:30 a.m.
We'll have both NaShanta Robinson and Nash Nova on for this segment...but you'll only hear one voice. OMG SUPERHERO SECRET IDENTITIES! Nash will talk about this week's huge Chicago Comic Con and draw us both a little deeper into the world of cosplaying.

satirecitybanner276.jpg

10 a.m.
Don't know why we're so into multiple personality disorder this week, but we invited Keith Ecker on the show and ended up with six people. Expect numerous funny takes on life in Chicago. I hope we have enough spare microphones.

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for cubs.jpg

10:30 a.m.
Cubbie Julie watches the Cubs so you don't have to watch them. And this year she's been doing you a big favor. She brought her son to Wrigley on Friday for his birthday...and witnessed yet another 9th-inning debacle and loss. So we thought it'd be fun to give her 30 minutes on the Mothership just to see what happens. Our fingers will be on the dump button.

lenoxbanner276.jpg

11 a.m.

Lenox Magee is a Hyde Park native and all-around man-about-Chicago. He'll tell you why he's outraged by the outrage over gay marriage, plus give you the Top Ten reasons why President Obama would be the perfect gay man. No, really!

11:30 a.m.
Either we must be doing something right or the bosses have been drinking again, because Alex & Amy (or Guth & Quigley, for serious folks) have the last word on CNR. Another Weekly Wager for Amy to lose**? Yep. The search for new ChicagoNow Radio theme songs? Oh yeah. Whatever else is on our minds? Absolutely. With special guest star Leonardo DiCaprio as Luke Brower.

EMBED THUMBNAIL BANNER/RIGHT HERE

9:30 a.m.
Alter Ego Manic is our guests at the back of the 9 o'clock hour, and she's coming in full costume on her way to Chicago ComiCon. There will be geekiness. There will be discussion. There will be photos.

EMBED THUMBNAIL BANNER/LEFT HERE

10 a.m.
A blogger new to the ChicagoNow Blog network, Satire and the City, joins us in the third segment to explain how he can blog as several people at once, run a successful reading series here in Chicago and look so stylin' while doing so.

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for cubs.jpg

Thumbnail image for hammervision276.jpg

9:30 a.m.
Hammer time! (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) In the second segment, we welcome John and Julie Hammerle of Hammervision to talk about the summer blockbusters you still should see and they'll give us a fall movie preview.

driven-banner.jpg

10 a.m.
Katie Weber Schroeder from Driven joins us in the ten o'clock hour to explain her philosophy of: "Put down the plastic for what makes you giddy, whether it's the soft, the sparkly or the spit-fire fast" and tell us all how to get into her luxe life way.

tough.jpg

10:30 a.m.
Capt. Meatball from sports parody blog Chicago Tough is coming by in the next segment to make fun of sports news headlines somethin' fierce. And from  form what we hear, no team, no player and no fan is safe from their mocking. (Just as long as they don't rag on my team, we're gonna be cool.)

showmechicago.jpg

11 a.m.
It's a bird! It's a plane! It's... waaaay too freaking crowded! Show Me Chicago's Carole Kuhrt-Brewer lets us in on the best spots to watch the Air & Water Show this weekend in order to skip the crowd craziness.

Alex Quigley and I hijack the final segment of the show like we do. Former rock DJ, currently a multipurpose Chicago media guy.

So yeah, I hate losing bets. I only bet if I think I'm going to win. So I felt pretty confident going into our most recent Weekly Wager (audio available on wgnradio.com right here). Amy and I both asked our moms, "What's the worst thing I ever did as a kid?" We wrote our answers down in advance to prevent cheating.

We closed the show on Saturday by calling our mothers! Before the segment, Quigley and I told one another about the worst thing we each did as kids. Then, we called Quigley's Mom, Barb, and my Mom, Vicki, and asked them each what they thought. Much like The Newlywed Game, we each had to match answers with our Mamas. Guess who won? Team Quigley or Team Guth? Team Guth won with Mama Guth telling the "I hate my underwear!" story, just as I guessed she might. Which means, my dear co-host Alex Quigley will be posting an embarrassing childhood photo right here on the ChicagoNow Radio blog for everyone to enjoy. Booyeah!

Amy Guth is digital news editor for the Tribune's books section and blog and is co-host of ChicagoNow Radio on News 720 WGN alongside Alex Quigley. Also? Author, adventuress and grade-a sass-mouth.

Saturday, Alex Quigley and I made a bet on the USA v. Ghana World Cup game. Alex Quigley won.

Let it be known that Alex Quigley is awesome:

Landon Donovan scored the first US goal in the USA v. Ghana World Cup game. During the ChicagoNow Radio show today, Alex Quigley and I played fantasy World Cup draft for the Weekly Wager segment. Quigley selected Donovan as a first-round draft pick for Team USA de Quigley. Put all that together:

Look for a video here on the ChicagoNow Radio blog from Amy Guth proclaiming Quigley's awesomeness shortly. Check out the video made by the last person to lose a bet with Quigley.

As Quigley himself said when I posed before Lord Stanley's Cup and he did not: "damnitsomuch."

As we mentioned during the show, we are open to suggestions: got an idea I can use to get back at potentially embarrass Quigley for next week's Weekly Wager? Holla at me, Team Guth.

Amy Guth is digital news editor for the Tribune's books section and blog and is co-host of ChicagoNow Radio on News 720 WGN alongside Alex Quigley. Also? Author, adventuress and grade-a sass-mouth.

On ChicagoNow Radio on WGN 720, Alex Quigley and I have started a new regular feature: Weekly Wager.

That's right! Every week, Quigley and I will make a friendly wager, and the non-winner of said wager will have to complete a pre-determined task. But, Quigley and I being who we are, naturally said tasks involve video, social media, and public humiliation.

Flag-Pins-USA-Ghana.jpg
This week, we are playing fantasy World Cup for the USA v. Ghana match. Quigley and I each named our player picks from the USA team on the show today-- making Team USA Quigley and Team USA Guth, if you will. The first fantasy USA team to score wins. If Team USA Quigley scores first, I have to make a 90-second video proclaiming Quigley's awesomeness. If Team USA Guth scores first, Quigley has to spend one hour in the Loop in a Philly Flyers jersey and capture it on video.

I think, either way, a vuvuzela should be involved.
