Alex Quigley

Former rock DJ, currently a multipurpose Chicago media guy.

So yeah, I hate losing bets. I only bet if I think I'm going to win. So I felt pretty confident going into our most recent Weekly Wager (audio available on wgnradio.com right here). Amy and I both asked our moms, "What's the worst thing I ever did as a kid?" We wrote our answers down in advance to prevent cheating.

On ChicagoNow Radio on WGN 720, my co-host Alex Quigley and I welcomed Carrie Kirby the Frugalista and Lisa from Fantabulously Frugal in Chicago in one of the segments. I think both blogs are interesting (and coupon-culture fascinating, really), but admittedly, I don't make any real effort to follow their advice. I buy what I need. Things cost what they cost.

Don't get me wrong, I love getting a deal. In fact, I feel as if I've "won" when I apply some Google-fu to my search for an item and find the best price. But, I really only make that effort for high-ticket purchases. Not for my regular day-to-day shopping. And, admittedly, I secretly cringe when I see mega-coupon people in line ahead of me in the supermarket, and tend to think the whole process couldn't possibly be worth the effort.

Or is it? That's what I'm going to find out.

For the next 30 days, I'm going to apply the advice of Frugalista and Fantabulousy Frugal in Chicago to my shopping. I'll check in right here on the ChicagoNow Radio blog to let you know what's what, and maybe even say hello from a guest post on one of their blogs.

Mind you, I have no idea what I'm doing, no idea where to start and I have no idea what to expect of the challenge. My outsider guess is that it will prove too time-consuming for my very busy schedule, that it will be a lot of effort for very little reward and that it will be too focused on the have-nots, instead of the haves.

But, maybe it will be none of those things, so I'm going to reserve judgment until 30 days from now.

Here goes nothing.

The ChicagoNow Radio blogger of the week is Chicago Food Snob's Joe Campagna, who wrote the awesome bacon post, and is guiding his readers to culinary success and enlightenment with such posts this week as the homemade power bar post, the 10 food words beginning with the letter "c" post and his video-included post which compared Charlie Trotter then and now. And, Campagna gets bonus points for coming out and representin' at the ChicagoNow tweet-up this week at Epic.

Rock on, Chicago Food Snob! Rock. On.

Last week's blogger of the week: Connie Reyes of Marathon MissFit.

We're starting up a new feature on the show every week:

The ChicagoNow Radio blogger of the week is Marathon MissFit Connie Reyes because, well, because she got engaged via RedEye this week. No joke.

Rock on, Marathon MissFit! Rock. On.
