Alex Quigley

Former rock DJ, currently a multipurpose Chicago media guy.

Start your Labor Day weekend with Alex and Amy at 9am Saturday morning on News 720 WGN. Tune in the old-school way on your radio or stream the show here. Join the conversation at (312) 591-7200. The guest lineup for this weekend's slightly-shortened show:

9am: Matt Olsen kicks off the show with Chicago sports talk which may or may not be in list-of-ten form. Can't imagine any Bears talk will be uplifting. Or Cubs talk. Or White Sox talk. Um...when does hockey start? He'll also give good reasons why your significant other should join your fantasy football league.

9:30am: Fraud's a bad thing. (We at ChicagoNow Radio also think puppies are great.) Professor William Kresse remains vigilant against all kinds of fraud in the Chicagoland area, from garden-variety personal scams to government-level corruption. He'll try to help you protect yourself...and probably tell you some things that'll make you mad.

10:00am: Ana Fernatt just went through a break-up. And instead of holing up in her apartment with her Snuggie and a bucket of Ben & Jerry's, she's coming onto our airwaves to talk about getting over it. If you've recently gone through it--or are contemplating a break-up of your own--it'll be a solid half-hour to spend with us.

10:30am: The guys from Gowhere Hip Hop will fill us in on what's what and who's who on the Chicago hip-hop scene.

11:00am: We cap the show with a preview of the next couple Weekly Wagers...Alex will be sprinting up 22 flights of stairs at the Tribune Tower (due to Jay Cutler's proclivity towards interceptions) and both Alex and Amy have a date with goalposts at Northwestern University. Videos will be on the show's Facebook page shortly after completion!

Follow the show on Twitter (@ChicagoNowRadio) and follow Alex (@alexquigley) and Amy (@amyguth), too. Catch us every Saturday morning at 9am on News 720 WGN.

Sweater weather day for the ladies at Starbucks (table for 4 please) with ChicagoNow radio. We got off track on American Idol talk while Matt talked about the Bears and fantasy football. Two of us were (past tense) in football leagues with our husbands. We tried to get into it but it's totally a guy thing. Sorry, Matt. We also don't get why guys get so nitpicky critical about Chicago sports teams. Maybe it's like women talking about each others clothes or parenting habits. The talk between Alex and Matt about their draft was like one of those conversations we want to politely escape from at a party. Like who is Johnny Greenfield? Is he on WGN?? Excuse us...we're going to see if we can help in the kitchen. Poor Amy.

Speaking of bad party conversations....the instant killers are accounting, computer babble or rambling play by play of their kids' latest game, play or music event. Professor Fraud's bookkeeping segment was interesting once he got to the stories about grandkids ripping off their grandparents. Those stories and his totally professional radio voice bumped our rating up to 2 out of 5 stars.

I generally agree with your assessment of accounting talk (try attending a conference of accounting professors like I have to ... yikes!), so I am glad you liked my fraud stories. And thank you for the compliment on my "totally professional radio voice"! I'm blushing! But seriously ... only 2 stars?!?! Gee, talk about a tough grader! Thanks nonetheless ... and keep reading and listening to ChicagoNow!

Seriously, you sounded like a seasoned radio pro!! Were you ever in radio? You should be with those pipes!! Regarding the 2 stars...do you know how hard it is to get 5 women to agree on anything? I'm sure solving accounting puzzles is fascinating to some but to those like me who are outside the field, well...
I'm in advertising and PR. I KNOW I'll kill a conversation if I start talking shop about brand identification indexes, cover placements, impacts. See, you checked out on me there, right??
Your stories toward the end about the slimiest frauds got our attention and spawned conversation at the coffee table. And your mention about the unmentionable tale from the Secret Service was the classic tease!! The next time you're on if the whole segment is filled with your stories then I'm sure we'd add a star or two!! Haha!! Take care of that voice!!

Thank you again, JenJen, for complimenting my "pipes". No, I am not a radio pro, although I did work at the campus radio station in college many moons ago.
I am still single, so I guess, yes, I apparently do know how hard it is to get women to agree.
As to your next point, you are right; my mind started to wander after "brand identification indexes".
I'm glad you liked my stories. I have a slew more! With any luck, the WGN and ChicagoNow folks will have me back to tell my tales - and hopefully earn another star or two! (And if I am back on, be sure to call in!) But until then, because of you, I will be gargling with salt water and drinking tea with honey!

We all liked Ana's segment but in kinda a creepy downer way. Her blog is awesome especially the Sexy Rx posts. She should blog more often. 3 stars.

The hip hop blog is the most popular on ChicagoNow? Never would have guessed that one.
We sadly aren't hip hoppy savvy
to madly savor this segment.
But check it out
We're all about new routes
and will take Alex's shill
and bust out their blog
though we're in a fog.
Word.

For us 30-something women, it may end up being added to our bad party talk list. Can someone explain to us the difference between hip hop and rap? Any help would be appreciated.

You know that 40-something is the new 30-something, right?

The wrap-up segment is turning into our favorite part of the show. We feel you should add an Amy-Alex segment to the beginning of the show, too! BTW, nobody can sprint up 22 flights of stairs. Amy, what happens when he can't do it and fails to pay off the bet? We think he should clean your new apartment every Sunday afternoon for a month. Why not? He says the Bears are going to stink anyone so why would he want the pain of watching them lose? Oh yeah....guys like to do that.

Final comment....I played soccer in high school and we all tried kicking footballs thru the goalposts. It's really, REALLY hard to do with a football. I'm betting Amy won't be able to do it from 20 yards out and if Alex hasn't practiced a lot he'll definitely have no chance from 35 yards. I will be TOTALLY impressed if either of you proves me wrong but be sure you have lots of Advil and ice packs waiting for you at home!! GOOD LUCK!! Can't wait to see the video!!
